| Now this is totally inspired by restlessness I have had in last few days browsing IL website. I see members fighting like unsophisticated people over something as trivial as viewpoints. Well I think we all should attend a basic course first to make sure, We all know what are the basics of any healthy discussion, leave alone debate. Debate is very higher form of eclectic discussion. From my point , I think we all have very diverse backgrounds and upbringing. Some may have gone through extensive grind of sophistication and refinement. Some may have just somehow reached where they are, probably trying to somehow get through life. Both may end up with same financial and seemingly same social positions. But I totally believe mental refinement does not come until people devote at least a decade sharpening it and refining it. Well no, I didn’t give you right to be rude on me, just because I decided to be on same platform as yours to discuss one issue. That s the free liberty your personality is forcing on me. It s not in periphery of healthy discussion. Never. You have good objections, word it well. We will flex our mind. But if you just blabber something, then you better pay attention to some refinement of mental faculty. It’s worth the investment. After all "Age is too high price for maturity." Some pointer for healthy discussion, from whatever I have learnt in my group discussion and debating competitions. - Never answer anyone directly while replying back. You are not there to question the person. You are expressing your opinion. So please stick to that. - Refrain from using sleazy language even if it’s your regular vocabulary. - If someone has made a cerebral point, do THINK over before you hit "REPLY" button. And counter it with good thought out point, not with some random answer. - Never cross question opponent's reply to your question. It’s considered very rude in debate, if you interject a person twice. - When suggesting your idea of solution or viewpoint, please bring out your ideas. Don’t piggyride on other’s ideas and dissect them. You may have your unique take at the topic. So do scratch your mind. - We are adults, and we should behave like adults. Not like kids teasing each other in some idiotic manner. Its speaks a lot about someone's mental quotient. We have quite comprehensive forum etiquette, I suggest it should be mandatory for everyone to go through. No one should be able to post reply or start new thread without they actually take up some quick test of it. Forum Etiquette I am borrowing following para from above etiquette, which I find very pertinent in this context """"Expected Civility Even though we all come from the same country, please remember that not everyone thinks what you think, believes what you believe or sees what you see. So, be courteous and friendly in your interactions with members who may not entirely agree with your point of view. While debating matters, please do so in a respectful and impersonal manner. Indulging in personal diatribe will result in moderation of your comments. If you find anybody making adverse references to you personally, please do not respond. This will only make matters worse. Instead, report the post and move on. It will be taken care of by a moderator as soon as possible. """""" Feel free to add yours if you have some.
