Default The SECOND Child...

Devi's house was filled with Fragrance of flowers..the aroma of sweets and food..decorated with lights and thoranam...Her father was giving instructions to all the helpers...Her marriage was in couple of days....Everybody in the house was busy doing something....Devi was the second daughter ..her sister Thara..was married six months back... Devi along with her father, mother and sister was sitting..in her room discussing pre and post marriage arragements....

Thara the elder sister was going Abroad after Devi's marriage... the discussion now was about the things to be given to Devi when she goes to her new home....Devi's parents decided about that early ..and now they were informing to devi.. They said that Thara's furnitures and gadgets were bought only six months back..and she is not going to use it anymore....they insisted Devi to take the whole set of things....they have discussed about this to her inlaws and they also agreed....

Hearing this Devi had an Internal Shock...but she didnt express anything....

Right from childhood she had to face this...
When she was in schooldays.. she had to use her sisters dresses which became unfit for her......
In higher secondary.. she was given the old cycle used by her sisiter..
In college she was given the used Scooty of her sister.....
Everything.was..a SECOND HAND......

Being a second child... Is it a Mistake.... ?? Does nt she have right to have anything Very new for herself......But she accepted whatever was granted for her ....

And atlast now for marriage.. the same thing... She didnt oppose..because she knew that her father had some finacial crise..so she kept silent......Even her sister Thara....didnt say anything regarding this....she just said OK to her father and left the room...

Marraige went well..and the next day.. Thaara was about to leave to the AIRPORT...She went to Devi's room..
Devi..didnt show any feelings to her sister.. she smiled at her... Thara hugged Devi..and kissed her.... She gave a KEY to Devi..."What's this akka??".. asked Devi.. This is the key of the Upstairs room... Open and see after I leave dear.... Devi was confused... She said, "Ok..akka......"

After sending off Thara.. ..Devi went upstairs and opened the room.. Seeing the room.. her eyes were filled with tears..... The room was filled with brand new furnitures and kitchen gadgets.... It was a SWEET SURPRISE for her.......She touched all the things with lots of anticipation.....

Their was a note over the Fridge..
"Dear Devi.... This is my Present for your Wedding... Start your NEW life with everything NEW dear... Though your feelings are UNSPOKEN.. I knew them..... I dont want to repeat the same lapse done in our childhood........
I LOVE YOU...
Bye. Thara....

Dear Brindha,

That was such a sweet short story. Though i guess its very common to use the elders things for the younger one its not necessarily a sign of underestimation of the younger kid. Maybe just economically convenient but this happens everywhere.
Even from being a new born to a teen very often use the seconds of the elder sibling.

I think it was really sweet of Thara, Such a wonderful gesture.

Nicely written Brindha,Enjoyed reading it.(Would it be ok to say that of the 5 things i cannot do without is a Brindha story everyday?)

Love,
Devika

Dear Brinda,
such a touching story, I liked it really. I wish that all younger sisters had such an elder sister.
Well, I am the second daughter but my akka is 11 years my senior. So there was not even hand me downs for me.
Good story!

Thumbs down Re: The SECOND Child...

Hi Brindha,
This is the first time I'm reading your article.
It was really a touching eye opener.
While the parents don't show partiality among their children, each one is as special as the other one is, but , when we see from the child's eyes, it does differ.

Thara is really a sweet elder sister. She understood her sis better than anyone.
I'm sure the bonding between siblings would become very strong , when such unspoken feelings are taken care like this....

I'll surely read your other articles
