India is one of the country that got freedom through non -violence . Though there are many freedom fighters like subhash chandra bose, bhagat singh ,chandra sekhar azad.........who chose to fight for our freedom through weapons, Gandhi ji was the one who chose the non violence marg for his fight to free India. we all know these fact.

Gandhiji is not only popular as a freedom fighter but he is also well known for his truth, ahimsa (non violence). he followed these 2 rules through out his life.

after being such ahimsa vadhi Gandhiji was never given noble peace prize. He was nominated for the prize for 5 times(1937,1938,1939,1947,1948). many of the noble prize receivers after him were the admirers and followers of Gandhiji's rules.

Martin Luther King (American civil right leader) mentioned about the greatness of Gandhiji in his acceptance speech of noble prize for the year 1964.
14th Dalai Lama noble prize winner of 1989 mentioned that this prize is a tribute to
    "my mentor Mahatma Gandhi".

58 years after his death in 2006 Noble public comity publicly regrets that Ghandhiji was never given this prize.

God sees the truth but waits. God know that Gandhiji was noble being but waited 58 years to say that he knew it. may be God felt that he is not only noble but some thing more than that ":MAHATMA" great soul.

while wonders are happening no one recognises it. when once happened it does not need any one's recognition.( a famous dialogue in khaleja movie by Trivikram).

    Nice thoughts on Gandhi Jayanthi.
Gandhiji is not honoured by Nobel Prize. In fact Nobel Prize gets honours because of Gandhiji. He never did anything for recognition or for winning popularity.

“When every hope is gone, 'when helpers fail and comforts flee,' I find that help arrives somehow, from I know not where. Supplication, worship, prayer are no superstition; they are acts more real than the acts of eating, drinking, sitting or walking. It is no exaggeration to say that they alone are real, all else is unreal.”
Mahatma Gandhi, The Story of My Experiments With Truth
This realisation is more than a Nobel puraskar to Mahatma.

Surekha, for one thing Gandhiji died too soon after independence, so his getting the award personally was not possible. As for getting the award post-humously, I guess he would be deeply embarassed if he was given an award for peace by the likes of politicians and organisations as exist today. The fact that there are at least a handful of people who believe in his ideals and look up to him as an inspiration is the biggest tribute that can be paid to him today.

With Nobel laureates like Arafat and Obama, it's a good thing Mahatma Gandhi never received a Nobel prize. His name would have elevated the stature of the Nobel peace prize, not the other way around.

@satchitananda (no madam as u mentioned in my previous post).while working for a great motive all these awards matters nothing in front of the destiny.

I can't say whether he will be deeply embarassed if he present now or his presence might have brought a positive impact on our political structure. God knows.

yes the best way to offer a tribute is to take on ones teachings(learnt from viswa sirs forgiving snippet). in that way we can offer our tributes to MAHATMA GANDHIJI.

Nice snippet on Gandhi ji! Agreed he followed non violence to get freedom. But he in his life before he got into the struggle for freedom he never followed those principles. Simplicity, honesty and giving liberty to Women never came to his thoughts before entering the freedom struggle. he had not been honest nor simple. he never treated his wife well. he was a barrister in south Africa. it just happened that he was thrown out of 1st class compartment meant for whites. that's when he realized and was sent back to india. back in india sardar vallabhai patel who was barrister as well had already started the freedom movement backed by 1000s of followers. and then Gandhi also joined this movement. that was when he was 45. till then he was just like any other person. It was Subhash Chandra bose who showed the power of military to britishers that they felt its high time we leave india and that's when india attained freedom.

Gandhi cannot get Nobel price since he didn't do anything on partition. He allowed it to happen. He could not bring peace between hindu and muslim. Y did he allow this to happen. He should have shown his dislike to both Nehru and Jinnah. He could have opted to lead the country which he did not. the brunt of which both countries are still facing. There is no end to this. If Gandhi had opted to be leading the country both would have stepped back.
