Some time back Shri Cheeniya Sir wrote about Power of time, that received nearly a hundred responses. Every movement of creation is linked with time. One cannot grow paddy in a month nor can a child become an adult in a year. Everything is fixed to a time-frame.

Time is said to be a wise counselor. Passage of time allows an individual to grow. This growth gives experience. Experience helps decision making. It is said that the wisest grieve the most at the loss of time.

There is a saying that killing time is not a murder; it is a suicide. It means, by wasting time one is not harming others. On the other hand one is harming himself. Ordinary people merely go on thinking how to spend their time. The wise and talented make use of it fruitfully.

Only the people who have lost the time are able to appreciate the value of time. You will understand the value of shade only when you are made to walk in the scorching heat.
What is the value of a year? Go and ask a person who has been detained in the same class.

The value of a month is better realised by a mother who has given birth to an under weight baby by premature delivery.
The value of a week is better realised by the editor of a weekly magazine.
The value of a day is realised by a person who just postponed his joining duty by a day and consequently missed his promotion.

The value of a few hours delay is better felt by the son.He would not have lost his father had he admitted his father two hours earlier.

The value of an hour is better known to a student writing the exam and the surgeon struggling to save a patient .
Doctors are aware that a patient — one whose heart has short-circuited and has been thrown into a chaotic condition known as ventricular fibrillation — has six minutes to live. A shock with a defibrillator within that time usually will restore the heart's rhythm. The value of mere 6 mts can be known only to the doctor.

The value of a minute is better known to persons who have missed the train as well as the interview.
The value of a second will be realised by a person when he just dozes off while driving and gets entangled into serious consequences, including loss of life.
The value of a microsecond is known to olympic participants or horse race goers.

The time cannot be stored. It doesn't speed up for the rich and slow down for the poor. It is time management that results either in fame or failure. How to prioritise is the essence of Time management.

With time management, you become more organized and the things you do become more habitual than panic-driven. By making it a habit, you become more productive. As Aristotle said, We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

We need not go anywhere to learn the lesson.See the clock. The second hand is always ticking to attain short term goal of making a minute. It is like doing day to day work like going to school, cooking, washing etc which may not require any special thought process. It is just a routine. After reaching the milestone of a minute ,it does not take rest or break, but starts another round, another round.

The minutes hand moves every minute,It waits for 60 seconds and moves. It moves less while the second hand does most of the running. The hour hand, ,the lucky lot moves very slow but its performance is visible.

Between every big task,we can fit in a series of small tasks, the experience of which may lead us to bigger goals.

All ITprofessionals are aware of 'time tracking'in project management.
Why to talk of big business jargons?Even a three month old baby needs a 'Tummy Time'
to develop the neck, back and shoulder muscles, 'a sleep time' for brain development.

We need not come to a wrong conclusion that pucca planning, tight schedules ,strict adherence of time schedules will always land us in victory.

Time management includes procrastination also.It may look strange. But taking a step back before you move forward is deemed to be a better course of action.Especially when we intend publishing books or articles it is better to view the topic in multiple angles before finalising.

Computer specialists use a nice word'late binding' for procrastination.Making early decisions, if beneficial in a way, delaying decisions especially in dealing with complexities of human behaviour is beneficial in many ways.It provides maximum time to think and determine alternatives. It enhances the flexibility, free thought process and facilitate current changes in the situation. The time pressure gets reduced and allows the mind to be creative and explore new possibilities.Delay will become a blessing in disguise.

Honouring the dead line is very important and for simple tasks it can be followed to perfection. For complex tasks a little delay may help a lot.

The word procrastination is actually derived from the Latin procrastinatus, from pro meaning “forward” and crastinus meaning “of tomorrow”.
The word pro is normally considered as a positive; It therefore follows that procrastinators are looking forward to the future!

A perfect story from a purana to match procrastination

Sage Gauthama had a son named'Chirkaari'. He was very intelligent. An adept in all the 4 vedas. But he won't do anything in haste. Many considered him a lazy fellow.Once Gauthama became angry with his wife .In a fit of anger he ordered his son to kill her. This was a command from father to a son.

Sirkari thought'I am in a dilemma. If I have to be obedient I have to kill my mother. If not I will be guilty of disrespecting my father.I don't have any right to determine whether mother is guilty. Neither do I have the authority to decide whether father's command was right. Thus thinking he just spent his time.

Meanwhile Gauthama calmed down and felt for his command. If Sirkari had killed his mother, who was but innocent, I will be a great sinner. He rushed back home.Fortunately his son was still in thought process.Gauthama blessed his son and said'It is great that you have postponed the evil.Any deed resulting out of anger, punishment and sinful deeds should not be done in haste. You are really wise".

There are many Birbal stories to strengthen this idea.
Do everything 'just in time'-does not necessarily mean as per time table.

Jayakka a thought provoking post and so much to learn. Some things have to be done at right time, so that we dont repent later. I also dont like wasting my time and try to do things before time, like we should be in time when we have to take a train or flight. Time is very important in life, once gone doe snot come back

Lost somewhere between sunrise and sunset two golden hours
each set with sixty diamond minutes
No reward is offered for they are gone forever

jayasala madam great snippet. yes every thing should be done just-in-time not a minute before or not a minute late. it depends up on the situation whether we should hurry or should take some time to react.
as u mentioned in the first half of the post about how would be the result if we just cannot do the things expected to be done in a particular time even a minute of the time wasted changes the life and second part of the post explaining how the time is needed to react and for procrastination .
correct usage of time in correct way.

    :hatsoff madam. greatly written.

i like the way you have mentioned how the value of the time in years, months, days, hours, minutes are changing the fate of the particulars.

    Dear Viji,
Thank you very much for your loveable response.I think all the persons above 60 are particular in reaching the airport/station earlier. Invariably I find modern girls and boys do all the packing at the 11th hour and start late. When we went to Egmore station this July about an hour back,it was so crowded, and no place to sit or stand.Even
A/ C class waiting rooms were stinking. We got lot of archanai from our son, who had come with the family.Bangalore roads are is said to be affected with traffic jam always and one has to leave the house 3 hrs earlier to reach the station.
We can't blame our children altogether. They have so many other priorities.

jaya mam, thank you for making me feel less guilty with my procrastination. What a great motivation to feel, "looking forward to the future" instead of "procrastinating".

Very nice snippet. Totally loved the way you described the movements of the hands of the clock and the value of time in each denomination. Creative. Jaya mam.

What an interesting interleaving of "late binding" from the computer theory. :clap

"Just In Time (JIT)" has been a recommended inventory management technique, pioneered by Japanese, and is quite popular in manufacturing specifically cars and airplanes. It is used in conjunction with "kanban" system for inventory management.

The modern computer languages like Java uses JIT compilation.

Time is slow if we are waiting for someone and fast if we are running late. Time is long if we are sad and short when we are happy.

    Loved the snippet.

    Dear Surekhap,

Thank you for the wonderful response. My idea is 'In-Time' does not necessarily mean before time or within the stipulated hours. It is just correct time even if it is delayed a bit.

    Dear Akaknksha,
Thank you for your wonderful response, as ever.Except for sending mails, I don't know the technicalities of computer world except through studying articles from Technical and Science page of popular dailies. In many cases,
stop a while, think and proceed' means a lot.
I am reminded of a specific matrimonial advt in a poular daily in 1993. At that time we were looking for alliance for our daughter.
The advt read " Wanted graduate brahmin girl-colour, complexion no bar-no demands-for a boy aged 27, MBA, fair, employed multinational company, Bangalore.
Advt issued on instructions from Sathya Sai Baba. The girl's parents who visits us first in the morning of ------( date) will be winning the hands of the boy for their daughter"
Advt was rather strange. The address cited was hardly a furlong from our house. In every possibility we could reach their house as the first person.
The advt looked very strange. My husband expressed his intention to visit them. My daughter categorically refused saying that there is absolutely no chance of Baba issuing instructions to choose a girl on 'first come first served 'basis.
"Procrastination is better than proceeding with haste', she said.
Later we learnt that the boy had bi-polar disorder and an innocent girl was caught in the net.
They had used Baba's name just to misdirect people.
Whenever I think of procrastination, I am reminded of this incident.

    Dear jayasala ma'am,
a very interesting topic and write up on the value of time and the just in time concept. Have noticed many times, that it is we seniors who are very particular about sticking to time especially when it involves meeting people, catching a bus, train or flight etc . This is more to do with us being over cautious of having to keep people waiting, or literally missing the bus etc. While on our visits to US , I had noticed that often people were just in time to catch a train or so - neither too early nor late and I used to wonder at their ability to be calm and cool. Yes, something to be learnt from youngsters too :)
