    The (He) Art of Waiting…

Life is a game of waiting.

From birth to death it is always a game of waiting.

Certain waiting as a kid is at the hospital for regular vaccination or health issues along with the parents, then the school admission which has turned a nightmare these days. The list is endless – college admissions, ID cards, Bank A/C opening, ration cards, aadhaar card, pan card, passport and the ought nots… The wait for the job offers, confirmation, appraisal, bonus/increments, wait for other offers, relieving, etc.

Thanks to the smart phone which has greatly reduced waiting physically in the queue. But have to wait for a refund virtually for a failed online transaction though.

There is another bigger wait – if you have/had a girlfriend you will know for sure. :)

Luckily/Unluckily if you are married then for sure you would be waiting for her to get ready, you would be waiting for her to finish her unending choices at many many retail outlets. :):):)

Endless waiting game till the end beckons – if you are seriously ill then a waiting game at the hospital to be discharged or relieved finally for ever, when the money to be paid is exhausted. :)

Of all the waiting games that life plays with you, there is the mother of it all -Outside the delivery ward of an expecting mother - your wife.

Here is the test of your nerves – all emotions will be simultaneously challenging you one after the other – happiness, fear, thrill, sadness, helplessness, eagerness, anger and many others that you may not really be able to either name or express, however linguistic you are.

It’s all for two lives, for the one that gave life to you by holding your hand and for the one that you both gave life to. It is the art of waiting, it is the heart of waiting – waiting for your heart and the new born art, heart of you both.

Please ask the da vinci’s, picasso’s and the likes of van gogh’s to go for a walk and paint something better than ours and ask them if their creations are greater than this art? And is the waiting for their art is it worth the wait for this art - the priceless masterpiece...

    Dear GG,
Great men think alike.I almost finished my snippet on'Queue' marking the title as 'womb to tomb'. As I was about to post it I saw.yours. I was behind you in the queue.

The most difficult period seems to wait in queue.
Not to talk of queues in airport at the immigration counter or others.
Some years ago, executives at a Houston airport faced a troubling customer-relations issue. Passengers were lodging an inordinate number of complaints about the long waits at baggage claim. In response, the executives increased the number of baggage handlers working that shift. The plan worked: the average wait fell to eight minutes, well within industry benchmarks. But the complaints persisted.

So the airport decided on a new approach: instead of reducing wait times, it moved the arrival gates away from the main terminal and routed bags to the outermost carousel. Passengers now had to walk six times longer to get their bags. Complaints dropped to near zero.

Often the psychology of queuing is more important than the statistics of the wait itself,” . Normally the tendency is to over estimate the waiting period.

This is also why one finds mirrors next to elevators. Give people something to occupy their time, and the wait will feel shorter.

Given a choice between a slow-moving short line and a fast-moving long one, we will often opt for the former, even if the waits are identical. The slips and skips produce more of 'queue rage' which is more difficult to control than 'loo rage'. .

Surveys show that many people will wait twice as long for fast food, provided the establishment uses a first-come-first-served, single-queue ordering system as opposed to a multi-queue setup. Anyone who’s ever had to choose a line at a grocery store knows how unfair multiple queues can seem; invariably, you wind up kicking yourself for not choosing the line next to you moving twice as fast.
I can walk any distance, but can't stand for long due to weaker muscles.I get dejected especially when we go to Thirupathi. We feel like coming out even without having Darshan.
I have the experience of waiting in the wrong queue and switch over while coming near to the counter.

Three months ago we wnt to Thirupathi. An estimated wait of eight hours threatened us.My DIl could not stand for long with her one year old son on hand. Some body suggested that they could also join the senior Citizens' queue , as escort to me and my husband. My son was holding my husband' s hand and my dil was holding me and also was keeping her child. Myself and my husband were asked to walk with a big limp, a drama to make them believe that we really needed help.
My son and husband had no problem. When myself & dil 's turn came the gateman asked my dil to keep the child away. She could either hold me othe baby. After heated discussion and arguments and after paying Rs 500/-we were allowed. We came out within 15 mts after having a 'Jara gandi' darshan .

I felt very guilty of having committed a crime just to avoid a queue. My grandson aged 10 quoted Krishna of Mahabharata " Soozhchchiyin nokkam dharmam aanaal, soozhchchiyum dharmame"( If the purpose of a trick is Dharma, then the trick also is deemed to be a Dharma). What a great lesson we learn from the 'Q'

Womb to tomb a catchy one and in between we are caught up combing to different attires :) Definitely a queue does teaches a lot - especially the patience.

Nice message you shared and it's pleasure to read as ever. Thank you for the fb again.
