Arrow It's a queer world

A very true story indeed. All names are fictitious
Mala is Chennai born Gujarathi. Father and relatives are in businss. Shall we say Gujarathi trait!
But Mala has done her Phd in Biology. The man whom she married is also a Biologist but an iyer. Mala speaks Tamil with slight Gujarathi accent.
Iam told by Mala's juniors taht she is a perfectionist. She has imbibed these qualities from Germans with whom she was doing research for sometime.

Let us call her husband Manish. They have two children. A boy and a girl. I believe boy is very hard working and the girl is extremely intelligent. It is said forehead is the indicaton of genius. If so her forhead speaks that truth.

Mala family has always been living a luxurious life.
The girl was forever stylish- a sociey girl. When she reached the college she believed in socialising. Modelling was her hobby. Ofcourse a doting parents and an affectionate brother.
I don't know much about the brother.

An year ago if Iam right I saw somebody dressed as Buddhist Lama entering the ATM counter of a bank. The person looked at me but I didn't seem to understand anything. I just walked out of the ATM. To me it was a just foreigner and that's all.

I had forgotten that incident. Sometime back my daughter said"Amma You know something. Mala aunty's daughter Rekha has joined a Tibetan monastry. She is engaged in teaching there.
I made fun of my daughter. Then suddenly it came to my mind about a monk in saffron robe looking at me near the ATM counter.
My God I have seen this child, I know this child. As a small girl I remember her saying"Aunty no servant in your house. We have 3 servants at home. I hate swabbing and mopping the floor"
"oh! God what a twist in life. I can never think of Rekha and frugal life.
Rekha, she liked anything glamorous. She liked glamorous dress, job and life.

Imagine Rekha leading the life of a monk! kanaka

Hi Kanaka,
Yes, indeed! Sometimes life takes us through so much of ups and downs, that our life itself takes on a different path.
If u see, some great Saints/Guru's would have abandoned the materialistic world and embraced spiritual life.
If the incident u have written is not unreal, then I pray that, that person recieves peace and solace in this new life of her's as a spiritual avtar.

Hi Kanaka,
It must be a real shock for you.

But nothing can happen without a cause.
May be God wanted her to lead her life that way.

Lakshmi.

Dear Imem,Mindian,Aparna

Thanks.

My husband's elder sister was very religious as a small girl. After sometime she became a rationalist. Her husband was just the opposite.
My sIL used to tell her MIL"Pl. don't expect me to look after your Gods after your death. I can't do anything in which I don't believe. If you don't want me to throw those idold you better keep all those Gods in the near by temple.

My SIL says her MIL was much pained. So poor lady few years before her death kept all those samis in the near by temple.

My SIL had no issues. Within ten years the husband expired.

TODAY my SIL HAS BECOME A SANNYASI. SHE handed over all her assets to the trust and leads a frugal life. kanaka

Hi kanaka,
you know life is full of mysteries. a mystery story with full of twists and turns. we do not know what, when and how it happens. sometimes it is like a serial with "thodarum" which makes us to wait anxiously to know what will happen next till the end of life. i understand how you would have felt when you saw that girl as a monk whom you know right from her childhood. we do not know what will happen next. even the next second is not in our hands.....that is life. quite interesting right!!?

Dear Kanaka,

That was an intersting episode.
Many a times people are tired of the kind of ostentatious existence that they live. They try to buy materialistic pleasures ,that money can but then the ultimate truth is that a person at some point of time craves, peace and happiness, both which are not materialistic and cannot be brought by money. Hence they take to the spiritual path and they find answers to the unanswered questions there. Its not frugal, but it is devoid of materialism, rich in peace, rich in love , rich in satisfaction.
Infact a lot of people from abroad too come to India to Himalayas despite banks overfllowing with dollars seeking that very comfort of mind.
But what seems right to one may not necessarily be right to another. Every one looks at things from their own angles and its better not to force your thoughts on others and rather let others realise it themselves. Thats what happened with your SIL and MIL . Each stage of life teaches us different reasons to do whats right at that particular time.

Love,
Devika

Hi Devika

I absolutely enjoyed the last para of your reply... especially the line 'Each stage of life teaches us different reasons to do what is right at that particular time'... It is very true.

Yes. I too believe in the saying ' Nothing is absolute; Everything is relative '

Cheers!
