Default Mathematics! It is as simple as you are!

Dear Ilites,

I am an undergraduate in Mathematics (Honours). Right from my childhood this subject is one of my passions. This is the only subject which will never put you in a dilemma. Because there is only one solution to any kind of problem in this subject.

This simple and humble subject is very closely associated with the lives of human beings. Be him a Billionaire or an ordinary fruit vendor. The realization that two apples and two oranges have something in common was a breakthrough in human thought.

Science has got a beautiful interaction with Mathematics. Mathematical discoveries have been made throughout history and continue to be made today.

The major 4 divisions of Mathematics are to do calculations in commerce, to understand the relationships between numbers, to measure land, and to predict astronomical events. These four needs in turn used in the study of quantity, structure, space, and change (i.e., arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and analysis).

Well, I don't want to get much into the Theory of Mathematics. I just wanted to imply my admiration for this simple and elegant subject.

Some of you might get away from this thread thinking that "Kanakku Enakku Suttupottalum Varadhu" i.e, "I shall never get Mathematics even if I am burnt". Please do not do that. If you are able to count your fingers then you know Mathematics. Because even great Mathematicians learnt Mathematics at first by counting their fingers.

Do we not count a bundle of currency twice or thrice to know the amount? The same way I wanted the members to share their views, admiration and simplicity of this beautiful subject here.

I would like to conclude this thread with a puzzle. I am sure you will all enjoy this solving. This puzzle is a pure mathematics and no gimmicks involved. So you all can lay your hands on it and give it a try.

I request the members who are able to solve this not to disclose the answer in this thread. Members who have found the answer shall just post a reply that they have entered the name in the Excel Sheet. Thanks for trying. Do not get bothered about the beginning words of the puzzle.

The Puzzle -

Only genius people can open this attached file.......once you succeed to open this file, you will find names of the people at all levels who have managed to open this......best of luck

How to open attached file???

There is a bus with 7 girls.
Each girl has 7 bags.
In each bag, there are 7 big cats
Each big cat has 7 little cats.
Each cat has 4 legs.
Question: How many legs are present in bus?

Number of legs is password to open attached file.

If you will open the file, write your name on the list inside, and send this email to your friends to let them solve this riddle & also let them know how intelligent you are if they happen to open the same file.

Good 2 know being SMART,
& good 2 know smart friends too .

One more point - Those who were able to open the file, kindly add your name in the file downloading from the previous member's attachment, who had already solved and included the name. So that, we will not miss names.

Dear Vanaja,

Nice post, i have yet to solve yr puzzle,

I love maths even today, as it is the most scoring.U know wheni am bored i solved the school maths , like Trigo, algebra etc.

I have learnt ways of sinmplifying multipication.Heres an example.

Suppose i bought an article for 80 and want to keep 15% margin on the cost and sell, what is the final selling price.?

You will need two steps.First take out 15% of 80 that is 12/- and second step is add 12 to 80, that makes it 92.

To do in one step, multiply 80 by 1.15 and u will directly get the answer.

Assuming the figures are tricky, for example the cost is 76.50, and the profit is 13.2%.

Then my systyem is easier, u can of course use the calculator.

And there is Vedic maths.Wonderful, shortcuts to multipications.i have leanrt a few tricks.

Good blog.Regards.kamal

Thanks for participating. But I missed one point to mention in my title thread and I have added at the end using edit option.

I didn't keep track of the time while solving the puzzle, but definitely used a piece of paper. We cannot do this by mind. May be great Mathematicians can do.
