Your taking care of the tulsi plant is the real sadhana. Activities like this will help spiritual growth rather than a forced reading of scriptures.

All my attempts to sit down for meditation failed. And I wrote this thread,

Nice thoughts, Vanaja.

Dear Varalotti Sir,

Thanks for the reply. Ok, I shall add one more hand to your picture holding a spade. It is better I appoint a Computer Graphics personal for keep adding hands and tools.

Yes, as per Bharathiyar and from many of his poems, we can understand he is a lover of nature. He sees God in nature.

I like to remain a pantheist. Yes, I have read this thread of yours long back. Thanks.

Hi Namitha,

Thanks for coming in. For your query, I am quoting here one of my replies to a member -

We are advised not to go near the Tulsi plant when we have our periods. It is better not to have it indoors as these things are unavoidable.

You will have to take care of its basic needs like other plants. For pooja, if you are not able to do it daily, atleast on Tuesdays and Fridays keep Turmeric and KumKum around the pot, put kolam and take an Aarthi if possible.

You are advised to pluck the leaves holding your thumb and ring finger at the leaf stalk. We need to take care of the leaves not getting stamped by our feet, in case they fall out from our hands. These are the basic things one should know about Tulsi plant.

Dear Vanaja,

A Good Write Up ! Well Said Love is God, God is Love.

I too have two – three Tulasi plant in my house in India. We are living in independent house, so we have made a small garden over there. Now I am missing it here. For me it’s not just a plant, I believe it as a form of God. By worshipping Tulasi, You are directly worshipping God. Well I use to offer Water to Tulasi Twice during the morning and evening pooja time, and pray to Tulasimata to keep our home safe and to make everything pure. During periods, we never used to go near the plant.

Ranjita.

Dear Ranjita,

Thanks for the reply. "Love is God, God is Love" is a quotation from Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's teachings.

Well, if it is an independent house, we can safe guard the plant very well. Only during summer we need to take extreme care of the plants and protect them from heat. It is better we water them twice, morning and evening and keep them in a shady place.

Thanks for sharing about your Tulsi plant here.

Hi Vanaja

Nice to know about your interest in gardening. I am also very much interested in gardening. When we were in schools, we moved to our own villa in Chennai wherein we ourselves planted Coconut, Plantain, Drumstick, Amla, Beans, Cucumber, White and Yellow pumkins, Guava, Chikku, Cherry, Green Chillies, Tomato, Lemon, brinjals, ladies finger etc. etc. In flowers, we had all types of jasmines, yellow and red december, sun flower, Vaadamalli, table rose, redrose, sanghu pushpam in white and blue, another pink flowered plant where seed will be inside the flower, besides TULSI. Vow, we loved our garden so much. Then later on we sold the house and moved to apartments. My mom is from Kerala, and she is extremely fond of plants, trees and vegetation. They had all trees including mangoes and jackfruits apart from others and of course Cows.

But now in Dubai, we live in apartment, so I miss all those. Nevertheless, I have Tulsi plants at home. Whenever I go on vacation, I fill up water in a large, long plastic bag and prick a hole and place it on the soil to enable dripping irrigation.

My mom who came to visit me keep looking for those COCONUT trees in Dubai, but as many know, Coconut never grows here, even if grows, no flowers/fruit you can find.

Only date palm trees are widely planted and date fruits will hang down during July and August months which we can reach by standing.

Warm Regards
Shanti Subramanian

Hi Shanthi S,

I miss your Garden too. Thanks for sharing.

I really appreciate your care for the Tulsi plant. That was a good idea to be adopted when we go out for days.

That was interesting to know that the Coconut trees in Dubai doesn't flower. May be the fertility of the soil and the atmosphere.

If possible, can you just share a photograph of the Dates tree with fruits. I would like to see the fruits.

Dear Lalitha,

The flowers were really spectacular. Two eyes weren't enough to enjoy its beauty. Your two daughters were like another two fresh lotus flowers.

Do they need specific climatic conditions to grow? How can we plant it and where it is available? Are they fragrant?

Thank you for posting the photos.
