| hi Aruna! Yes, these people are doing such good work quietly, keeping a low profile. I thought the least I can do is let more people know about their good deeds. We definitely need more persons like these to make the world a better place to live in, don't you think?! More importantly, and to correct myself, such kind-hearted souls do already make the world a better place to live in. best, hasita

| 1 May, 2008 Raibareilly, MP. Shyam Sadu, a man who has planted innumerable trees in a place very much in need of it. He has made it into a green city with his efforts. His garden outside his home is his research center, where he tries out planting plants and trees of various breeds and hybrids, as well as those unaccustomed to that sort of climatic conditions. For instance, he has successfully planted coconut trees, a seashore tree in an inland town like Raibareilly! After waiting for many years, the trees finally gave coconuts, and how! During his daughter's marriage, he used these coconuts and became the talk of the town. To add to this, he has also reared monkeys. More about that tomorrow..

| 27/28 may 08 (ok gals n guys, I've missed out on many 'episodes', sorry about that, here goes today's)What is your child's day like? wake up at 6 am, get ready for school, go to school, study, get back, go for tuitions, do homework, play a bit (?), watch some tv, have dinner, go to bed, next morning... wake up at 6.00 a.m. .... And so it is with lakhs of children in our country. BUT... not for all most children in India are not so lucky. 63% of children are malnourished 47% of them are homeless 25% of them are never given vaccinations 20% of them do not get clean water to drink 15% of them have never ever visited a school katha - an NGO that took up the cause of working on the last aspect. They go around in a mobile van and stop at regular locations around the city, teaching children. These children are working since a young age, supporting their families. They have no time to go to school. Hence Katha started this much-needed venture to try and educate these less-privileged kids. At the very least, the children learn to read and write on their own. To be continued tomorrow.. (I will post if I view it, else, please check it out and continue this. Have to confirm the name of the NGO as well!)

| Kiran - 11 june 08 Mr. Rajesh Atrolia Dp.Commissioner of Police, Indore. This man is a visionary of sorts. ... Braille books are too short in supply for the blind. As for the normal text books that our children use, they need one person to read it to them if they have to study during exams. So, Mr.Atrolia found a practical solution to this problem by preparing cassettes of the school curriculum by using which they will not be dependent on another person to read the lessons to them. He did not stop at that. Going a step further, he started identifying children who need someone to write the exams for them. Because, the complaint of blind students was that just preparing well for the exams is not enough. It has to be translated/written on to the paper to fetch them marks (as we all know so well!) So, Mr.Atrolia, Dpty.Commissioner of Police, does this voluntary work of identifying all the persons who want to help such blind students. It could be other "visioned" students as well. They formed a Writers Guild where all the students interested to help have listed their names. Any schools with blind students can contact them for helping them to write the exam papers. Extremely practical, simple and what a noble deed! Makes us change our perceptions of police personnel to some extent, what say?!

| Kiran 13 June 08 As long as you are alive, you can make your own decisions, take your steps, good or bad, stupid or intelligent, make what moves you have to. But once you're dead, you're dead. You have no control over anything that happens, even to you, your body, that is. If you have family and friends who will take care of the body, then good. What if not? In Jodhpur, (Rajasthan), people are assured that any stranger's body will also be taken care of after death. The man who takes care of this is Makhtoor Ali Gham. He is retired from his Govt. job and only earns pension. But still, he sees to it that people get a decent burial or funeral. If there is news of a body lying unclaimed, Gham makes complete arrangement to give that person's body a decent funeral. His own pocket gets lighter in the process. In the past 30 years, Gham has made arrangements for over 5,000 funerals. One man claims, when his wife died a few years ago, it was Gham's son's wedding that evening. But still he came, helped with all arrangements, only then went back home to attend the wedding of his son. M.Gham feels that each person, whatever he might have been when alive, deserves the right to be sent off with decency on his last journey.

| 25 June 2008 Dr. Ranjit, came back from USA to work with sick AIDS patients in India. He wanted to give something back to the people of his own country. He decided to work from Andhra Pradesh. To do this he first used to go around talking to people to spread awareness about how AIDS spreads and how people should take the appropriate precautions. Later on, he went on to set up a hospital for these AIDS patients who are abandoned by their families. It is free for those who cannot afford, for those who can, they can pay the nominal charges.

| 26 June 2008 Delhi, Raj Path This place was full of jungles earlier, before the Raj path was built that is. To build it, stones came from the quarry in Delhi-Haryana border. While working there, many workers got lung infections. Currently, the Gurgaon area is witnessing a lot of development. The workers come from Haryana - Jharjhar district. 3 crores bricks are made per year in the brick kiln. 20,000 workers from nearby states are employed in the brick kiln. They work for 6 months of the year, and the remaining 6 months return back home as the kiln is closed due to the cold weather. So their children suffer indirectly. One man, Ajit Joshi decided to do something about this. He thought "Which school will give admission to such students who are there only for 6 mths of the year, and the remaining 6 mths will they continue their studies back at home?" Ajit Joshi started thinking about all this.. How did he arrive at a solution to this? to be continued tomorrow...
