"A good teacher is like a candle -it consumes itself to light the way for
    other"

-Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, translated from turkish

Teacher's Day in India is held on September 5th, on the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. India's 1st presidentand an extremely respected scholar and teacher of philosophy. It is the day that Indians honour the teachers and their immense contribution to the country and the community.

The influence a teacher has on a child's life is far reaching. Dr. Abdul Kalam, our beloved ex president, reveres his teachers and hold them in the highest esteem. He says "Teachers are the backbone of any country, the pillar upon which all aspirations are converted into realities."

There is no other profession in the world that is more important to society than that of a teacher. Our teachers take a raw, shapeleass piece of clay that we all were children and carefully and lovingly sculpted us into the person that we are now. A teacher's role is as delicate and crucial as a parent's. For most of us, some of our teachers were our parents away from home. All of us have at least one teacher who we think of with gratitude on Teacher's Day, that one teacher who played a pivotal role in your life and touched your soul. We all remember that teacher we had who built us into the people that we are today.

So, on this September 5th, let us all take a few minutes out of our day and pick up the phone and call our teachers and thank them or do write about them here as a tribute to their incomparable contribution to our nation and for lighting our lives.

Wishing all the TEACHERS around the world "HAPPY TEACHER'S DAY"

    Dear Arunarc Sister,

Thanks for the thread on the first note.

Wishing all Teachers in IL Family "HAPPY TEACHERS DAY" appreciate them for choosing their profession as teachers be it passion or comfort or whatever.

Yes, Even before our CREATOR, Teachers get a place, (Even though the present scenario is deviated little tangent) the fact remains that teachers are the sole sculptor of student from childhood, though parents also have a role but that is just minor, to cite an example every 90 out of 100 students will say When we try to help them solve a tricky assignment, they would prefer to hear it from the teachers rather than parents/Siblings.

Thanks to all our teachers who have been with us during our days of Education, Kudos to Teachers you have choosen their profession and serving the student community.

I wish many drop in and contribute to this thread, Thanks, Sairam

Wishing all teachers in India, Happy Teachers Day.

During my childhood, we used to do some dance or skit or singing show for our teachers. We would decorate our classroom, with cute wordings written on blackboard with designs on border, and some crazy drawings.

Teachers are good friends, guiders, and helped me in a lot ways. They always boost and encourage me. I love my teacher L.Nageshwari, for bringing my hidden talent out, and this has been helpful in my career to shape it out.

    Aruna
Lemme first give in my bunch of thanks for the kick start of this thread.
Even Zillion of thanks to our dear teachers won' be sufficient for their selfless service.

Here, today, I remember all my teachers esp the one who spotted out my Tamil proficiency, gave a ignition, motivated me to take part in competitions and lifted me with my awards.
Being very strict to everyone and melts with smile when saw me.
Being a hostalite and missed my mom and she filled the space.

She is -Ranjitha M'm.Honorable Icon in my life.

She had a big mole rt side of her upper lip.
I have moles on both side of nose.
So its easily acknowledged as Mom - daughter bond than teacher-student.:)

If not her, I would have not excelled in my Tamil literature.

M'm,where ever you are, surrendering my life time humble Bow.Please do accept.:bowdown

Remembering all my teachers and a BIG Royal salute to them all
    HAPPY TEACHERS DAY!!!

    Just as the darkness vanishes,
When the arrival of sun is near,
    Whenever you started your classes,
Our ignorance was driven with fear.

You were and will be one of my
Rolemodels, I am bold enough to say
This here today, but was too shy
To say this before you and stayed.

Your way of treating any as equal,
Is something thats applauded so well.
    Your gentleness when someone strayed
    Is definitely a rare display.

You took more interest in those
Children who didn't study english well.
You coached them in poetry and prose.
How I wished to be there as well!

You were too shy when someone said,
"Thank you!" and disappeared from there.
I know that it'll always be a winning bet
To find someone like you anywhere!

I had been one too, bit never will
Come even a distant second to you.
If you were to teach now, I sure will
Come back to catch up many things new.

Thanks to Aruna and IL for the opportunity.

Its time I remember and bow my head to one of my best teachers - Sir. Pazhani who was my class teacher from class 6 - 8.

Happy Teacher's day to all teachers here.

    My dear Aruna,

What a beautiful tribute to our teachers! Thank you for creating this thread.
My teacher's have played a significant role in my life
I used to be a favorite student of my teachers.
I was gratified when my school principal had attended my wedding reception almost after seven years of my school graduation.
They had encouraged me for participating in elocution competition for inter school events.
My tribute to all my wonderful teachers on this beautiful day.

    Love,
    Bhavna

    Dear Srinivasan

Wow what a poem you have dedicated to your teachers. They help us unconditionally without expecting anything in return.

    Dear Bhavna

Nice to see you here. Looks like I am the only person who use to get the most beating from teachers:) being the naughtiest student most of the time I use to get punishment. But I know teacher punish us for our own good, becoz of all those punishments today I am proud of what I am today. Learnt discipline, respect others and etc.....

Most of my teachers are no more, as studied in convent my teachers were mostly nuns. Last time when I went to meet them only one person was there and she too has gone very old and was bed ridden.
