| Dear nandshyam, Thank you so much for ur appreciation. You are right truly.I withstand the statement said to jaishree Quote:
As the saying goes “Distance leads to enchantment” so only we visitors are feeling the importance and excitement attached to the temples. For them it is a daily routine. But still they can change this opinion(right or wrong) by many ways.To say a few, 1)They can listen to the visitors voice by employing a customer care representative and maintain a separate cabin allotted for attending customer’s issues.. 2)They can place a suggestion box like the one we find in many offices etc. I personally feel that educated people also maintain limits and they are a bit selfish. It is my opinion. Very clearly you have explained the incident. If you believe me,even I have wondered why there is no orderliness followed especially when distributing prasadhams.I have seen many persons not maintaining a dignity while eating prasadhams.More over as u said when prasadhama are distributed not in the right place, there cannot be a tap (in the first floor taking ur case as example).Only when proper place is allocated for prasadhams,a tap for hand wash,a neat dustbin with polythene cover inside ,the problem of “echi panradhu” atleast can be solved.Because we cannot ask them to eat decently ,they must know. The situation of hurrying to get prasadhams and grabbing is one which is taking place right from the olden days.I am not disrespecting ancestors because the world is not changing, only the people are changing. So good and bad people are are existing in all ages. As I said to sowparnika, even rest rooms look so great in other countries. While we rank top in culture, tradition why not in following public hygiene which is possible only by laying rules and regulations.Like I have stated the mobile phone incident ,only by penalizing and punishing certain issues can be tackled. Yes your solution is superb..Your answer is also superb like my answer. What is the next step? Your feedback is really valuable.Thank you so much. Thanks for ur feedback. As i quoted above, good thoughts and responsibility must arise with in each and every individual."Cleanliness is next to godliness".While we rank top in godliness ,we go behind as for as the former is concerned.I think and believe india is flourishing in all aspects except for these minor issue which is not a bothering issue for them.I still don't understand while other countries maintain a clean and dignified environment what is that which is pulling us behind.I repeat and repeat my words that only by penalty and strict rules we can atleast throw some light on the situation. Thanks for ur comments ...keep posting....... BC |

| Dear Bhargavi Chakravarthy, You have given a wake up call to a very important aspect of our life--cleanliness. What use are the numerous cleaning materials that is flooding even the Indian markets today, what is the use of all the modern washing machines and dishwashers our women are investing into and what is the use of all those wonderful shampoos and body washes etc etc we splurge money on...Ok, don't be confused. All I want to say is we try to keep ourselves and our homes clean, very clean at even a high cost. But then, our country, its cities and towns and its streets are not kept clean. Like all of our members here have written, our roads are used for any and everything. No civic sense. My mother and sister are absolutely finicky about cleanliness. Their homes are clean. But they feel desperate when garbage is dumped outside their compound walls and it never gets cleaned. The more you 'beg' the cleaners and corporation workers, the less they do anything about removing them. And they feel miserable when they see roaches and other insects crawling into the house through the openings in the sink or from under the door or windows! One of their worst fears about leaving the house locked on vacation is that they return to a kitchen or bathroom that has been a happy play ground for these roaches. They lament that no matter how hard they try to keep them away from their clean houses, the outside infra structure is so bad and such roaches just have a field day! Well, this is only a small example of how an housewife laments..Lack of cleanliness is hazardous to health and many illnesses can be avoided in our tropical climate if we could keep our roads, towns and on the whole, our lovely country clean. All we can do is vent our frustrations here! I wonder if anything really can be done about it! Great thread and good fbs. A worthy nomination for FP BC! L, Kamla |

| Dear bhargavi, That is a good post.Something very relevant. Yes I do agree with you that charity starts at home.In most homes the drawing rooms woill be so beautiful, the kitchen shining but the washrooms will be filthy.Somehow the residents may feel that using the washrooms is ok,but cleaning them and washing them is dirty. We should teach the youngsters to keep the washrooms at home clean. When we go out and eat ice creams or snacks the kids should be made to look for dustbins and put the waste in it.Keeping public places clean should become the order of the day and it remains in the hands of the parents to give that civic sense to their kids. mithila kannan

| This is a great topic by you.It is my experience ...In some temples we can't do the pradakshinas with so much greasiness all around with abishekh milk, water and oil flowing out together. When we think it is the same abhishekha water which was offered to the deity...To think one can't pray without getting diverted by these things.... Here, kids are taught everything about disposal of waste disposal, recycling, sewage treatment early on.How many schools in India would have these... maybe a few...I can feel the stark contrast in my few years of staying abroad ...... Here people who walk their dogs are expectd to carry plastic bags to collect the waste.Back home, many people behave instinctively like a dog who sees a lamppost.People are fined for littering in many countries....I think the person who imposes such a fine would be fined in India ![]() When I visited the museum here with my daughter, there is model showing kids how the sewage treatment works and how the waste water of the city gets disposed... But in India we have to sometimes stand in our balconies in apartments and we can see how the waste of the city gets disposed .... direct One of my neighbours used to do that... she used to throw everything out of her balcony.....It is not so funny since we had a tough time reasoning with her......... why should anyone remember our country like this, Oh my God! dirty roads, public toilets, what pollution!Even temples which also happen to be major tourist attractions are not spared. Just like many others who love our country, and are proud of many things about it, I too am taking the liberty to express my views here, thanks Bhargavi. |

| Dear most kamla mam, First of all, many many thanks for ur appreciations.I was almost surprised to see ur feedback and also sunkan’s in another thread.I was really motivated by ur words Great thread and good fbs. A worthy nomination for FP BC! These words are more than any award for me.Thanks a ton kamla. Stepping back,by our continued discussions, imposing rules and regulations will be a wake up call but the saddest part is people switch off the call and again go to sleep. That is what going on.As I said sanitation can begin at home and can end in home only.Civic sense is always a matter of discussion. The dumping of garbage is something intolerable and irritating.I feel each and every resident must be unselfish so that atleast the connected street is dirty free.Regarding the corporation workers my brother, mother used to say they are labour based workers.(in tamil “koolikku maaradikkara casu”).We can expect any change from them and on the end of the day,our blood pressure rises and only our tensions are made visible. Even though we take utmost care to clean the house and then go out ,but still the efforts get wasted by these outside visitors (roaches, insects).Well u have given a sample of house wife’s laments.I can feel and I can realize it effectively when I get married.(just joking) Cleanliness is next to godliness ,it is not given importance next to GL ,but not at all.Health is wealth that is why cleanliness is priotisised after godliness. But so sad that health as well as hygiene is least favoured.Well as u said we can only arrange Gds,conduct debates among ourselves. Thanks a ton for u feedback. Last edited by BhargaviChakravarthy; 14th April 2008 at 06:42 AM. |

| OH bhargavi u remind me of my days when i used to do kanchi silk business and had to go by bus the travel is ok but the toilets maintained every where is something one can see but never say, shit all over the ground and they were charging us too, so never used to go after that episode it was a night mare to go anywhere near the toilets now i see a lot more improvement still i feel. people whom we visit sometime are so particular about all the cleanliness in the house but the toilet one will have to be careful other wise one might land up in hospital as it is so slimy and skid you will and brown in stain, they blame the water of the area and when i used to go for singing dont ask my god how many a time i have prayed oh god pl let me not have any liquids, but during the rainy season it used to be just two plank of stone over a pit just 50ft down and i would run back saying no i would rather die, but these were many many years ago and hope all have changed, yes the basic concept is to make the children clean the toilet once every alternative day to keep the atmosphere there also clean....oh what a memory rush has ur article brought back...sunkan
