Hi roopa

I am indeed from that generation, but fortunately I have not lost that child part of me.

Still without any inhibitions, I sometimes play with kids, run to catch them , skip rope with them

"Koi laut de mere bit hue din..."

best wishes
Ansh

Dear Roopa,
I used to think about these very often and i often discuss with my colleagues about those golden days which the present generation is completely missing out.
I wish everything comes back like those days where we enjoyed total freedom, had great friends and loving relationships.
Today everything id restricted to computer and other electronic stuff.
Good i really enjoyed reading it
Rgds,
Presci

Thanks Ansh and Presci for peeping in.

Yes even i miss those days and the hulla gulla we used to creat while playing outdoors.

In our society we have decided to promote more of outside play time for the kids here...so they also learn team building and share things..which is impossible otherwise in a nuclear family.

Roopa.

Hi Roopa,

You made me get very nostalgic. Yes there was a lot of earthy fun in those days as compard to the tech fun now. Kids are missing out the plethora of oppertunities that was available then to explore their childhood.
I still try to maintain something similar but it is an effort as opposed to those days when seizing fun was effortless.

Hi Devika and Meena,

Yes we areally miss those golden days. In todays world of concretisation we barely have place to walk...where the hell will the kids have earthly fun.

Few months back we had gone for an outing and at this resort they had all these games like gilli-danda, treasure hunt, placing 7 brinks one above the other and hitting it with a ball etc. We all had great fun in playing these games.

Roopa.

Such a warm post Roopa! Refreshed me!

Yes, I too grew up in that bygone era and to a large extent still mentally live in that era! J. In these days of polished living and talking, I still try to maintain somewhat of a “raw” way of living and behavior.

Somehow people then had time for each other - to mingle and to causally drop by.

I fondly remember how I learnt to ride a bike. My neighbors were a newly married couple, both of them doing their Master’s at IIT. They used to have a very busy schedule on the weekdays. I used to look up to them as elder brother and sister.
One day I mentioned to them that I wanted to learn to ride a bike. That’s it. That very weekend Dada (I used to call him Dada, meaning an elder brother in Marathi) took me to one of those bike renting places, we rented a bike for 2 hours and he taught me how to ride a bike! I was very young then so the bike we rented was quite small in height. The guy literally had to bend half his height and run after me holding the bike from the back. He did this for 2 hours straight! Of course, he spent Sunday recovering from the backache it caused him! I still feel so touched that he took it upon himself to teach me to ride the bike and treated it like it was his major responsibility in life!

These days with training wheels on the bikes, we don’t need to do much running behind the bike anymore. But how many people take so much personal interest and time out for someone? Very few, if any.

Just as an aside, I did run with my son when he was learning to ride the bike! J He did not need me but he was still thrilled to see me run beside him – just as a morale booster!

I do miss those days of simple fun. In some small ways we all do try to re-create those for ourselves and for our kids. If we can continue to spread them and do more it’ll be a good reminder of those simple times gone by..
