The day began as usual, I got into my car , turned on the radio and started. The news on radio said another very cold cloudy day with temps not crossing 28F and probably that we won’t see the Sun until tomorrow. However, I was looking forward to seeing all my silent partners - I have been training for a mini marathon for a month now till a week ago when almost everyone at home came down with a bad case of colds, coughs and fevers and my training came to a screeching halt!
So here I was back again. I parked and started walking toward the gym and spotted my bald (by choice) friend. He gave a curt nod in acknowledgement and a little smile that read to me – ‘there you are’. I knew he would have started early and must be left with another 10mins, when his friend joined him. I was sure then that I had company for another 20mins at least! The thin young girl, running faster than a cheetah was going on at her usual pace! The tall big guy looking like he is running at a slow pace but is covering incredible distance was busy with his MP3 player and his running. I got on to my machine and started my day. I saw two more get on and start the running - must be new I thought. Now it was fun running because there were six of us running trying to keep up our own goals. But where is my friend? She is nowhere in the gym – she usually works at more than 3 machines. Ah there she is coming towards the treadmill! My petite friend who has been walking along side me silently joined me and lo behold instead of walking, started running that too at a fast pace! I was quite surprised that there was such a fast runner behind that fast walker and here I have been training for a month and doing a mile/14mins – did she pick up in the last week I have been away? Has she been training outside? How can it be? It so cold! . A few more musings and a couple of thoughts about my kids and a few more smiles, I knew I must have covered most of my distance and was panting and pushing to reach my target when I suddenly saw the moon peep out of the clouds – it was not as cloudy after all! and he seemed to say ‘come to my land and you will feel lighter’. But I knew I am here and I need to loose my best friend of 5years – my last 15pounds. So I completed my work out and when I got home, it was quiet. I smiled, .it was time to wake up the hubby and kids and get them ready for their day.
