I think some where or the other we all take our parents for granted. Even I have done this, but realised it when we become parents. When I came out of India that is the time i started missing them the most. These parents do so much for us and what do they want in return??
Just our love and a few nice words and i think we all can give them this.
Well said Devika our kids learn what we do and follow our footsteps. They watch us more so will follow what we do...........

No words to appreciate you. that was a wonderful write up waking us up. i lost both my parents , even i had a very special relation ship with my dad as u have mentioned we would walk discussing events from A-Z. he was my role model. and had encouraged both of us ( me & My sis) in lot of ways. if its something iam today its truly bcoz of him , He was diagnosed with Parkinsons in Feb 200 and expired by april .

and MOM i lost her by oct 2006. she was a wonderful person managing home & office but we weren't that close as she ahd to work at odd hours i always stayed back thinking y shd she go to work instead of taking care of us and this was the reason may be an anger which stopped me getting close. Now when iam supossed to leave my toddler at a creche and stepping out to work its pinching me that even iam exercising the same without any excuses. when she really reciprocated with all the affection and love for me that she herself regimented i lost her all of a sudden.

presently i could just sit back & regret but could not facilitate as they are no more

I seize this special forum to convey my thanks & love to them.

Hey Ramya, thanx for appreciating the write up. I'm very sorry about your parents .
Ramya its genuinely touching to know that you realise the worth of your parents . Seeing your love I'm sure their souls are at peace.
Ramya I too miss the presence of my Dad a lot . I have found a way out in OLd Age Homes. Whenever I get the time I spend it with the less fortunate parents who live in old age homes and are not in touch with their children. My daughter too loves the experience. Infact thats her grandparents home. And believe me when I go there I feel a sense of relief , as I see my parents in each one of them . Those old people always await our arrival and their anticipation is overwhelming .I can also feel my Dad being happy about it. If we do not have our own parents around ,its only wise to find that love in such people or from the parents of our friends etc.

Hi Devika,
Really wonderful write up.
I really appreciate your thought.
Many times we take them for granted. I have done that too...
I still remember both my mom and dad used to worry for me if I get sick with fever and used to sit next to me whole night.
I realized that very much when I delivered here in US and nobody was around me during my labour pain and after that. When my parents were around me for simple fever and delivery was a major thing and nobody was there. I used to cry whole night thinking about this in the hospital.

And whenever I am not there with them, I think of making them to sit, relax and I want to cook for them and serve. But when I see my mom I become lazy...(which is very bad). But in my last visit I wasn't like that, I did help her out with some house work.
They are also getting old and they need moral, physical support.
I took them to restuarants, shopping and made them happy.

There is much more to learn and change ourselves...
But all these things are realized only after becoming mom.

I am proud of my parents and happy to be their daughter!!

Even though there is MOTHER's day and Father's day, we don't have the tradition/habit of celebrating it.

But now a days, my kids are learning all these things from school and they speak out.
I think with our generation, we have communication problems. We don't speak out, instead we do take care of our parents during their old age etc.

Wow!! I loved reading ur post. I feel we do take parents for granted no matter what. Though I say to myself I won't from now on I feel I do it later on in some situation or the other. I guess I have to keep trying may be. hopefully I will get better at it.

its a very good write up from u ,i always thought about this from the time i knew the importance of parents.
actually that was the only reason i was happy for delaying marriage proposals so that i get to stay with them for some more days ,months.....
at last with their blessing i got very good husband who also takes care of his parents very well and mine too.
my parents happen to be here during last 3 months on visiting visa , it is their fisrt time travelling through flight and we left no stone unturned to keep them happy . i used to prepare all different dishes from this place,ofcourse some really bad but my dad used to say it was very good and poor thing he used to eat what ever i served to him.my mother is a picky eater so i would her different items .
my husband used to come home early and take them see all visiting places .infact its beeen 5 yrs of our stay in finland but we never went all these places untill my parents visited us,my husband used to get all the information through net in his office hrs and brought all printouts for my father.
iam really happy and it was my 5 yrs dream come true to show them other part of the world where people live in minus 10 degrees .they njoyes the snow fall a lot and were sadly counting each day coming closer to go back to india.
thanks to my husband to get a thought of bringing my parents to our place with out any reason,i will cherish these moments for ever .actually it was not at all enough for me,if only god gives me chance i wish to serve them all though my life .
