I have a penchant for collecting noserings for a long time indeED.At the time of my marriage my mother bought for me a typical three stoned nose ring.I wore it for some time, then lost my fancy for it.Kept it inside.I went about collcting different types of nose rings. One with a single pearl, one with a single coral, one with out stone etc.Once we went to Madurai,we went to a jeweller's shop to buy ring for the would be son in law of my SIL.There I saw a beautiful nose ring with a single diamond. The shopkeeper with an uncanny power in reading the customers'mind extolled the virtues of wearing a diamond nose ring and also said,"Amma this nose ring will look nice on you.Actually I kept this for my family member but you have come all the way from Madras, you can take it.That did it.Even my husband who normally does not attach importance to stones in jewellery, was impressed. So i bought it and wore it also proudly.
My elder daughter who came to Chennai, from Bangalore where she lives, took one look at me and said,"Amma, this nose ring is a little too big for your face."Thats all my little heart broke, you see.I removed the slightly bigger nose ring, kept it inside and wore another pearl studded one.
We went to Bangalore to stay with my elder daughter,Vaidehi,.One evening we went to Balu chetty's shop as my daughter wanted to buy bagles for herself. There on the shelf I saw a beautiful, small nose ring with a single diamond in it.I lost my heart to it.I grandly took out my credit card, paid for it Rs.5000 only, looked at my husband and my daughter with defiance. They both smilingly exchanged glances. They are so used to my impulsive acts.
From then on I began to wear this small nosering only,My daughter also said,'Amma this looks nice on you".
Acouple of months back my husband's 70th birthday was celebrated.I wore a new 9 yards traditional saree and generally dressed up well.My daughter who had come from Bangalore was supervising the arrangements and taking care of the guests.Suddenly she came near me and said,"Amma, why are you wearing this small nose ring? One cant even see it.You should be wearing your big nose ring with single diamond, the one you bought in Madurai,no?"I tried to glare at her.I said,"Vaidehi, you only told me that the big nosering does not suit my face,no?".
"But Amma, that was many years back, when you were young",said my daughter,"Now you have aged so gracefully, amma,"my daughter,my dear friends,is a very polite and diplomatic person.Instead of saying to my face "Amma you have greyed,so this nosering will suiit you",she said,"now this big nose ring will suit you well".
I darted into my room and wore my big nose ring with a single diamond that I bought in Madurai.I felt on top of the world.
Vaidehi came near me and said,"Amma you look so nice now!".I glowed in her compliment.
My husband who was sitting beside me called her and said in a loud voice so that every one can hear,"Vaidehi, you know which side of the bread is buttered my child. You have made sure that from today till the day you leave for Bangalore, your mother dear will plait your hair and lend you all her sarees to wear with out a murmur".
Nearly six months have passed since this happened, but my daughter Vaidehi's laughter on hearing her father's joke ,is still ringing in my ears.

Dear Sunkan,

I am not suppsoed to be here, as this is a ladies topic. But i am jelous of u. 5000 hits.Wow ! and that too on a nosering.Anyway congrats but i am jealous, ok ?

This reminds me of Sita my younger daughter. She wanted her ears pierced when she was 10 or so.Now my maid servants had their ears pierced, and they were a few years older to her.

They suggested a shopkeeper close by.We went there, my wief wanted a top class airconditioned saloon to do this. But i went with Sita and the maids to the shop.A small shop, the owner said, baby not problem will take a minute. He quickly heated a silver wire, and in seconds pierced it through her ears, and that was it.the cost with the wire - 20/- in all.Cheap and effective.

Regards.kamal
