| A doubt can you solve? Why does the decoction stay below when we pour it into the glass of milk while making coffee, why does it not mix itself like other substance, is it because the coffee condensed is thick unable to rise above or is the milk too thick to allow any substance to rise above…sunkan

| Hi Sunkan, i think the same thing happens when you mix tea decoction with milk, too! waiting to know the reason, like you.... sriniketan |

| Dear Sunkan Never thought about this aspect.Anyway nothing like a hot cup of filter coffee.Awaiting to know the reason like others. |

| Hi My understanding: There are three types of liquids in general-solutions, colloids and emulsions.Milk is a colloid. A charecteristic property of colloids-large particle size. To undestand why decoction doesn't mix with milk, consider the following: There is a seat in a bus whose capacity is 2. If 2 thin people sit in the seat, a third (standing)person can easily adjust with the two.But if 2 fat people(large sized) people are made to sit , it will be difficult for a third person to adjust. Same is the case with milk.As the particles are large due to colloidal nature, the dicoction particles do not easily mix. But if you mix dicoction and water it will readily mix, since water molecules have relatively smaller size. Anyway, we won't think all these ..all we need is a cup of hot strong coffee as Veda said. | Hi sunkan, I think it is viscosity that plays a vital role here.....not very sure.....

I am very sorry... I seriously want to... But I am very poor in science... But in my opinion, the density of the misk is greater than the decoction... So, it will not mix easily... The mixing tendency is inversely proportional to mixing... The more the density it will not mix... May be I am wrong...
