Default Who influenced you????????????

Who influenced you? We all have people who molded our behavior by their influence. Some with their kindness, wisdom, experience. Some on our list may be people who negatively influenced your life, which caused you to say, "I'll never be like that." In both cases influence is energizing. Everyone is affected by certain events or individuals that greatly change their life. Many people have influenced me during my life. (Here I am not talking about the great leaders)

My biggest influence, my dad, he taught me how success and hard work go hand in hand and how to save. My mom taught me how to cook at the age of 10. She forced me to become independent by the time I was 15. Learnt a lot from her.

Then veda taught me to give 100% to relations even if they don’t reciprocate, saying that they are like that.,If we also learn to be like them, then there will not be any difference and also saying kutram parkaiyil sutram illam..(that is if you find faults, you will lose your near and dear). I learned that I wasn't just a wife and mother but a person who could stand up and be proud of who I was from him.

My other influence my FIL who taught me to listen and learn the nuances of carnatic music. The positive part is learning to appreciate carnatic…the negative,. was to learn to appreciate all forms of music…(he condemns film music in the house..).

My MIL taught me to look forward in life. She always used to encourage the kids next year june (that was when fil used to get some revision) we will be better off…we still continue the same trend..come next year we will be better off… the negative, don’t take your health for granted.

My children are an inspiration more than influence, I should say. My son because of his voracious reading and quizzing keeps me reading and improving everyday. My daughter with her calm nature (ofcourse she hides a great temper inside) and drive to learn new things..

During my childhood, there was this dad’s office colleague who was living near by. His wife had some problem…I don’t remember that..but she used to have a box (the stainless steel school box of good old days) under lock and key and carry it everywhere, the key used to be attached to her mangalsutra, so too safe. One day she opened the box…it was filled with eatables, chaklis, murrukku, toffees, candies,.. the kids zoomed in with their outstretched palm..for a piece…but she used to never give them a piece…would hit the kids if they persisted…later came to know she could not control eating…I learnt a great lesson that I should not be like her.. she could have given a small piece, the kids would have been happy. I cannot eat without sharing, even if it is a very small toffee.

At school, there was this sister who taught me to be kind, honest, and be strong saying that if I learn and follow this I will be respected.

There was this couple near my working women’s hostel. Everyday, the wife would come out and check if the husband is watching any of the ladies in the hostel, she was always suspicious(poor guy used to not even lift his head..). I learnt not to be suspicious from her.

The list goes on… I also have to mention that everything and everyone I have ever come in contact with has left their imprint on me however small..

How about you..???

Dear Shanti,
Nice write up. Yes we all learn so many things from almost all those around us. I think I need to sum up and write in detail. So let me take some time to do it. But before that I want to congratulate you on what all you have learnt in your life. Good : which will help in self analysis.

hi rajmi,

Thanks yaar. Self analysis is best analysis and I am the worst self critic. Yesterday, my kids were discussing about the great leaders and how they grew up, what they did...it was like a flash...there are lot of people who may not be great leaders but do leave an impact on us....

the list is endless....did not know where to stop....do take your time and come back...waiting to see others perspectives................

there are a lot of personalities who could influence us no end, i had my mom from whom i learnt generosity, give give and give, the feeling is too fulfilling that nothing is important, our great Indira gandhi inspired me no end that a woman is a steel within and should recognize that fast the sooner the better,
it has helped me stand firm in my life, men have been great chefs in my life from my grandpa to my father in law great inspirers. when we actually sit down to list it takes a lane on its own in our mental trail to seek so many have been a part of this molding as a character that we are today..sunkan

Dear Shanti,
That is a post that for me will lead to introspection. But among the many who have influenced my life these people are most important.

My dad- he would always fight against the tide and taught me how not to give up hope. He always says you should learn to rise like a phoneix from the ashes.

My mom-She was the rock pillar strength of the family who always saw to it that come what may we tide it over together.
]
My husband-taught me so many values -patience comes first, he always said, for I had a very short temper. Many of our relatives consider me a changed person all thanks to him.

My younger sister- she taught me how to enjoy an outing without emptying my purse
Fun and enjoyment came at no cost.Imporatntce of money and to be stringent I learnt form her

My older daughter-even when she was unwell at a tender age, never made a fuss.Took all the treatment and medication silently although it was painful for a six year old.Pain from her, I learnt is a part of life.

My younger daughter- born underweight and doctors gave me no hope. Survivor she is I learnt that life is one tough fight, tougher than you think.

Nice post.I too have had the share of people influencing me.First and foremost was my dad.He taught us all the good things of -sharing,caring,compassion,helping and what not do.One more thing is reciprocating telephone calls, visits, invitations, mails etc.He also taught us not expect anything from anyone, just do what you can for others.
Then my husband-he also taught me what life was about.Never deter under any situation.Compassion and never hurt others were his watch word.
Then my mother in law-Amazing will power to carry on with life.
My eldest sister-She has also taught me what will power is.

Hi janani,

retrospection is a must every now and then...it adds more value to our life..as we know where we have gone wrong...my opinion....

You know, kids teach us a lot.....bless both your kids....

So there lies a hidden short temper???.....should be careful next time...(thought touchwood there was not indication of a short temper in you...)

Dear Shanthi,

First, thanks for acknowledging that I have been a possitive influence...

Thinking back on the influences... My father has influenced me for the honesty, sincereity... My mom taught me to be possitive, that tomorrow will be a good day... I learnt the importance of family and spending time with family from you ..... Not to give up inspite of negatives is something I learnt from you...

I had great Bosses, from whom I learnt how to be and not to be a Boss... I learnt various traits and how it influences your subordinates.... Though some may criticise I am very liberal and all... It has paid rich dividends...

We learn from various people at different stages of life... We keep some of them as role model and follow their steps... Great....
