Exclamation Saving is to clutter: as Throwaway is to Clean

Hello All
Since everyone is always kind to share a nice word with me I thought I'll bring out this from behind. It happened this morning with our empty juice bottle. I did not want to throw it away.!!!!!!!!!! How could anyone have the heart to throw away such a pretty looking bottle I dontget it So I proceeded to clean while my husband walked into the kitchen and said why are you cleaning this old used juice jar and I said its too cute to throw away so I am going to clean and keep it. He gave me the "look" which I'm sure said "how intelligent are you " (read "how dumber can she get?????). But with enough married experience under his belt he walked away quietly. And then in walked my son who said Can I throw this away ? since by now the empty clean juice bottle was sitting on the countertop. "NO !!!" I said (read "high pitch voice") I am going to keep it. Its sooooo cute. But Mom you already have saved so many of these jars and bottles that they are taking too much space in the pantry. And more over how can u reuse the juice bottle? To which I calmly (read "red" in face) replied I am sure it will come in handy !! The bottle is so sturdy and it has got a nice spout and a neat design and cute look and fancy color. What more can anyone want in life????????? So saying I marched into the pantry with my new juice jar tucked under my arm only to gape at my shelves. OMG when did I run out of space. Look at this. I have been trying to save the juice bottle, oil jar, yogurt containers, vinegar bottle, salad dressing jars and some more which I could not even recognise. So am I becoming a pack rat now and adding clutter or do you think these will come in handy for me someday?

Hi Chitra,
Just enjoyed reading this and could not stop laughing. Even I was like this when I came newly to this country by the time my husband was already here for long time even he used to have a "look" like what you exactly mentioned. but after few years I learnt that if Iam not going to use for few months than I never going to use it. so now generously I am throwing away still with some kind unhappiness. same thing with cloths, shoes, toys, electronics..so many things my husband just pack it ..drop in the good will store.. he says If he tell me to do that it will never ever going to happen…I can understand totally what you are saying…

Dear Tulasi
I am glad that there is someone else like me. How could one possibly throw away something that is so cute? If i continue this way we might not have space for us.... You will not believe this recently I went to the BAPS temple where they gave me prasadam while leaving. this was in a small "cute" container maybe 3 inch or so inside there was a tasty sweet. after cleaning i still have that "dubba" I am just not able to throw it away. please help... also i'm not going to share your husbands trick with mine then i will lose all my saved clutter.

Ha Ha, I can believe saving the dabba, it was not easy for my husband to touch any of my clutter junk I used to give serious look with "high pitch voice" just like you. Latter on I decided any way I can't throw it..Atleast let him do it at least house looks clean. .initial years he also gave me a pack rat title Also he told me he can get one big wooden box, I was wondering why, he told you can pack all the things in that box so that you can carry for your final trip(guess where?)....

Dear chitra,
i join you here, i collect those disposable food dubbas, to give away to people who keep forgetting to send back my tiffin boxes, which i pack lunch for my kids, they are a lot useful and never give a chance to any to think that they should return something with the box and it takes so long for them to decide that we many a time forget that a box been sent there, so i washed all those carry food packs and keep them ready, i know it is a clutter after sometime, then i send it away in a large bag with my sis who is mad about it, or give away to my indra who is also not any more interested in these, she makes money by giving it to the bikri fellow. i remember collecting all those sprite bottles just the right size to carry while traveling, but it got so enormous i throw in the lot, nowadays we have stopped drinking coca cola after all those advertisement as pesticide, decided no pest in our stomach lining and keep away...thanks for bringing this out..sunkan

Dear AC,
Thank God, we desis do not have this problem, as much as you have. The containers are very often too flimsy to preserve !
Besides, let me share with you something which I learnt in my feng shui class - any clutter starts accumulating negative energy ! Yes !!
It is suggested that ANYTHINg which has not been used for maximum one year, must be "heartessly" thrown away, including clothes, gadgets etc. It is also said that the teddy bear like soft toys, which we preserve as a momento of our children's "baby days" atract the maximim negative energy !
After learning this, for me, it is "throwing away left, centre & right" ! Why invite negative energy as a guest ?

This is not to scare you, but just for your information.

Dear Anandchithra,

Your post is too good. I think these things come handy during this Navarathiri festival. We may need these containers to pack up Sundal for the visitors. Of course these containers have to be sterilized before use.

OMG!(your expression, i am using it for chithra mam's reply). Thanks a lot for sharing this information madam. You have given a tonic to make my heart strong enough to get departed with these accumulated containers and bottles.

regards,

Vanaja

hey a.chithra

get your concience to sing...
sometime back
they said india is high among
the nations responsible for
global warming
i sure got a fit...

people out there
have bottles for milk sugar or whatever
which they throw away as litter

use plastics thick and thin
to recycle or flush the gutters block...!

and here poor dear cluttering nation?
save a bottle or two to take that water.
keep pickles in store
pack those sudden lunches
never to be returned boxes of sweets..
satisfy mum in laws who love a `chweet box'
and like me...make a hole in bottle, box or tray
to plant a wee twig that refuse to pot...!
writers great (we too..!) use those darn throwaways
as pen holders...or tool holders...
naw....! dont feel bad
vasthu says dont clutter
we are not littering or cluttering
only saving the nation
from dear dear global warming...!

Dear AC,

You can use those Juice jars as pots for keepig money plant and other climbers and if you have other broad containers you can use it for kitchen gardening. For eg. Tomato seeds instead of throwing you can throw in the container, if the climate and soil is good, you will have a tomato plant. You can sow methi seeds, coriander seeds and your herbs for your kitchen will be readily available after some time. You can join with your son and try to do some painting on the plain glass jars. Even i am like you. When i was in Botswana, i have tried those things that i have told you above and its a good climate and soil and it grows nicely.

Dear Chitvish,

Are you sure about Fengshui, then what about those things that i am saving for my daughter- some clothes that she wore when she was born, first and second birthday icing of the cake - first birthday , all colored clowns, second b'day - brown teddy bear. So these momentoes are going to invite negative energy, now iam confused and i fought with my hubby and spent lot of money and brought the big teddy bear and other things when i relocated. So that means i am taking negative energy from one country to another along with me.

Anway thanks for the info.

Bala

Dear Bala,
I did a course in fengshui where I learnt this.
They insist, one should not accumulate, particularly soft toys !
Well, I am not competent to say whether we should go by it or not !!
Love,
Chithra.
