Email versus snaimail

Oh! How I miss my snailmail! Those were the days we were looking forward for the postman's arrival. How I loved to receive a letter from mom with her own handwriting! NuNukki NuNukki inland letteril thakkunuNtu itam kuuta bakki vaikkamal anpai pozinthu ezuthara kadithaththai vasippathile oru alathi makizchi than. Hmm....ammavum poyachu! katitham ezuthara pazkkamum poyachu.
As we got telephone we started talking over the phone. Then came email. These modern communication gadgets had spoiled us too much. At least greeting cards were sent on important occasions. I have stored lot of beautiful greeting cards with meanigful words and beautiful pictures. Now egreetings had taken the place of greeting cards.
I do agree that during emergency we can't depend on snailmail. We have to use the latest technology to contact a person. But still I feel that greetings sent through a machine doesn't has that personal touch. The hand written letters, even after the demise of the person, gives us solace as if the person is really talking to us. Hence we should preserve letters written by our near and dear ones. I feel that most of the ILites will agree with me. At least once in a while do write to your near and dearones.

what u say is true, but this email has made us so savvy that writing a letteraa oh no kayi valikkaradu, is the statement, and one side this is so much easier, imagine sending the horoscope and photo and then waiting for a week for their response and then getting negative answer minus the photos, these are some of my experience in fact i dont even bother writing to the ads if they dont have email id, as there is none to get the covers or post it for me, i have also requested mangayar malar to please add email as all the information needed is in a format with horoscope and photograph so nothing gets misplaced or lost, in fact for the people abroad i scanned the kalyana pathrigai for my daughter and personally wrote one letter with copies to all, what to do, the episode that u say is nice to cherish, now mymother is blind and none to write, yes plenty we used to save, later it only becomes kuppai to the kids, so what is the use....nice write up..sunkan

What you say is true. A letter that is precious for us might be kuppai to our children. I do admit that modern communication has its advantages. Yet I feel that a hand written letter has a personal touch. Some letters are so touching the we like to read it again and again. Thanks for posting your opinion.

I also cherish letters written by my grandpa and uncle, who is no more. Reading their letters takes me to the good old days. As pointed by you, with the latest gadgets we are not able to feel that personal touch.
I also keep letters from my parents and grandma written longtime ago as nowadays we talk over the phone or through e-mail.
i made up my mind to follow the last lines in your article.

You made me nostalgic

I love writing letters and when am done with my schooling, all my friends were in different colleges and believe me i used to get three letters in a week and till now i treasure all those.
now my grandparents stay in a village even though i talk with them on phone i make it a point to write letter so that they will read it when ever they think of me. More than the phone call they eagerly wait for my letter.As you rightly pointed out that the personal touch is missing in the new technology.

Thank God! There are still people who wait for snailmail. Hand written letters are really treasures for those who are eagerly waiting for them. The personal touch really brings joy to the receiver. I used to write letters from the age of nine to my dad who was posted at Jabalpur. My mom would always tell me to write letters as others would not listen to her. After my marriage my sister used to write on behalf of mom. When she got married my mom used to write. As she was born and brought up in Tirupathi she knew only Telugu, but later she learned Tamil.
