Default We gave lift to a baby snake!

This had happened in the year 1996. Our locality was in the developing stage and it was rainy season. One day we were going to some relative's house in our luna. As we were approaching a place called Kaiveli, I noticed my hubby trying to apply the brakes and asked him what was the matter. He slowly uttered the words,"pambu." He stopped the vehicle and we both got down. He brought a stick from roadside where they used to dump all the wastage. He took the little snake by the stick that was about one and half feet and threw it away. He told me that he noticed the snake when it crawled from the front light to the left side, but he did not want to tell me, thinking that I would get frightened and try to jump out. From then onwards I used to tell my hubby to check the vehicle thoroughly before he started. I still shudder to think what would have happened if it would have been a bigger one. God is Great! He was always benevolent to me and saved me from bigger catastrophes. Perhaps some people might think that I am just narrating cock and bull stories, but whatever I am writing has happened in my life. Those who are living in newly developing places, please be cautious and always check your vehicle.
Love,
Pushpavalli

Dear Pushpa madam
Talking about snakes you made me nostalgic!
During my childhood days we used to visit my grandparents in kerala. They lived in a remote area where the house was surrounded by trees and bushes.Snakes were a common sight.
Huge ones (harmless variety) literally crawling on the ground right in front of your eyes, the white peels on the ground (skin shed by snakes ) always amused us as kids.

Regards
Sowmya

Dear Pushpa
When you narrated the incident I was reminded of an incident narrated by my sisterwhich happened in her house in Pondicherry. One morning around 9o clock her small pitts dog kept on barking as soon as it entered the kitchen. Her familywere all wondering what could be the reason.Normally her dog used to bark continously like that only if there was a mouse around. So they all assumed that it was a mouse. So they kept moving the vessels ,grinder table etc. Then finally they moved the cylinder,my god they found a snake lying there .They all immediately rushed out.Gardener was summoned. It wasa type of a snake called ''Kattuverian''.It ishighly poisonous .It is killed only when it is burnt.it was destoyed the same way.
My sister's younger daughter has said several the green snake which is harmless had crossed her path and infact once fell from the tree right on her cycle...............

In bangalore, 10years back we moved near Bangalore University area. Next to our house there were not much house, it is full of university trees (it is like a mini forest). It was still a developing colony, with not much houses, no good transportation and no proper street lights.
The area itself is called 'NAGARABHAVI' meaning --- well of cobra snakes.
I used to walk atleast 2 kms to get a bus stop and vice versa.
Every evening I used to see many snakes on the way and I had 'rahu dese' going on too.... so I used to see the snakes first and later others used to see them.
I used to see big 'cobra' (sometime the black ones) before any good things used to happen to me. SO that has become a sign for me that after seeing cobra something good will happen to me.
Later I got married and came to Boston... my first delivery was over due.. i crossed 41st weekand no sign of labour pain...
that evening we were going to library and my husband ran over the car on the snake...
thank god it was not dead...
immediately I was in labour pain... since then I haven't seen any snake (even when i go to my mom's place) instead my older son keeps seeing them.
Right now he is in my mom's place, everyday he keeps seeing them..
I could'nt understand this mystery that until his labour I used to see the snakes and now my son keeps seeing them.

Dear Pushpa mam,

i think ur hubby did a good thing not telling you, becoz anyone in that place would definitely jump first inspite of it being a baby snake.

Punitha,

its very interesting and surprising to know that now ur son is able to see the sankes instead of you.

cheers
sreelatha

Unhappy Re: We gave lift to a baby snake!

Dear Pushpa,
You made me nostalgic too ! as I remember that in my childhood we used to stay in a village that was newly built and hence many snakes could be seen every now and then. I remember one such incident that still sends shiver down my spine We had a big courtyard and garden in our house. One day me, my sister and my mother were just having a chat in the afternoon and then my sister noticed that something is crawling and coming inside the house from the courtyard into the room. To our horror , we saw that it was nothing but a black snake. I had never seen such long shiny black snake ever in my life before. Immediately my mother threw something in front of it and it felt the sound and took a U-turn and went back again in the courtyard. and stayed there. We had a person in the village who used to catch the snakes. I called him up. He came over and tried to catch the snake but the snake went inside a hole in the garden. We got that hole sealed with cement.
Later the guy told us that the snake was very very poisonous. I still thank God that my sister noticed it at the right time. otherwise it would have hidden itself somewhere in the house and I cant even imagine what wud have happened

Dear Somya, Kanaka, Puni and sreelatha,
Thanks for sharing your and your near and dear ones encouter with snakes.
We had a lot of encounters with snakes. When we shake pavazamallikai tree in our garden to collect the flowers they used to jump out. Once a big cobra was crawling on the Curry leave tree and some peolple who saw it fromthe clininc opposite to our house started shouting,'Snake, snake." It was on a Friday and we did not want to kill the cobra. But those people would not leave it. They brought sticks and staffs and started beating. My neighbour came and finished it off. Afterwards she burnt it also. Next morning she lamented that she should not have killed the snake. To pacify her I gave her some milk and told to pour it over the ashes. We have a vacant site next to our house where this lady and her husband live as care takers. It was the breeding field for snakes. Hence little ones of snakes will visit our garden. My hubby will catch them in polythene bag and throw them far away. There is a saying in Tamil, as if the snake says that, "Mithicharai kadikka matten, vithicharai than kadippen." The meaning is that " I will not bite those who tread on me, but I will bite only those who are destined to die by snake bite.
Love,
Pushpavalli
