HI friends, Where can I find a good wooden artwork swing in Chennai? It has to be unfixed at the top(separate) as our ceiling is very high. Thanks and sorry for the constant trouble.. Rgds.

I have seen silver peedams, but not mandapams. In Shukra jewellery, you can find out. I light the floating lamps & keep them in the foyer in the evenings in a bowl of water. I shall mail you a photo. Absolutely beautiful is a simple word ! Love & regards, Chithra.

Thank you for the info. I really look forward to seeing the pic of floating lamps, since I have no idea abt it. Do you feel that it is worth buying the temple jewelry available in certain shops (names already mentioned in this thread). I have seen rakkodis, addikais etc- silver with gold plating. They are breath taking, but are they good value for money and long lasting? Like Ami, I would also like to know where I can get a good woodwork swing? Many thanks in advance, warm regards Vidya Last edited by Vidya24; 11th April 2006 at 09:48 AM.

Dear Vidya, Please see the attached picture which decorates my foyer - floating lamps are lighted in the evening ! Those jewellery are all very good, but have to be carefully maintained. They will redo it, if it fades. Swings are definitely available in V T I . I got mine there. Write if you like the photo ! Love & regards, Chithra.

Dear Mrs Chithra, It is very pretty. Far exceeds what I imagined or expected. And you have even put flowers around. Thanks a million. Do wish that silver prices would stop soaring like this. Thanks also for info on the jewelry. Thanks for your infinite patience and grace in answering my various questions. warm regards Vidya Last edited by Vidya24; 11th April 2006 at 09:48 AM.

Dear Chitvish, the picture of your lamp with flowers is so divine. I am also interested but my 2 vanarams (hubby and son) will make it impossible to maintain anything beautiful and aesthetic. So instead of always pulling up them and creating disharmony, I just resist from doing them. May be when I am old I shall get a chance. With wrm wishes, varlo

Hi ladies, Do you know of classes in Chennai where one can learn different ways of striniging flowers? Not just for hair, but also garlands for Gods. I am especially interested in the art of making 'kachapparam'. Pls do write back, this is something close to my heart. cheers VR

It is available in Gurjari which is the Gujarat Handicrafts emporium. Their wood work articles are made mainly of Sankheda wood. It is quite light weight and comes in a box (we can assemble it). But the general pattern will be more North Indian. I think u can also look for a more South Indian type stand swing in places like Madurai, Karaikudi. I have relatives in Karaikudi who bought a beautiful carved swing from an old Chettinad house. Hope this is of some help. Last edited by Vidya24; 12th April 2006 at 07:55 AM.
