I need to learn the appropriate stitch used to finish the edge of one of my saris. I think it is called a peeco stitch. My Mother-in-Law has finished my others, but since she is in India, I will need to do this one on my own.

I have searched the forum, but I may not be searching with the correct terminology. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Finishing Sari Edge...

Peeco is zigzag stitch. Singer basic machine has the stitch. You will be able to do it easily with the help of manual given with the sewing machine. In case you want to do it yourself you can look for machines with zigzag sitch available in the machine.I have Singer and do zigzag when I need to do it.Good Luck.

    Re: Finishing Sari Edge...

Thank you so much! I studied my other sari edges, and I thought they were done by hand...I hadn't even thought about the zigzag stitch on the machine! I will definitely be able to make quick work of edging on the machine.

Now just wish me luck completing the choli. I have it cut, but not stitched.

    Thanks again!!

Good Luck. The only thing I found a little hard was the speed of stitching in the machines here. Once you get used to it stitching is a breeze. One trick I learnt from my mom is after stitching anything give the stitched cloth a wash. That strengthens the stitches.

    Re: Finishing Sari Edge...

I just got a couple of used saris from a local thrift shop, and they both have raw hems at each end. Could someone please give me more detailed instructions on how to hem them? I do have a Singer sewing machine with a zig-zag stitch. But do I roll the edges? Fold them over and iron them like a regular hem? I just don't want to look silly if I ever get a chance to wear them!

    Thanks!

The manual with the machine will give you the instructions on doing zig zag stitch. Remember to keep in mind the texture of the saree while doing it. You can run cotton sarees at a speed on the machine but synthetics require little less speed as they slip a lot.Good Luck.

    Re: Finishing Sari Edge...

edges can be hand stitched by making a narrow hem usng slip stitch or it can be stitched by machine also.there is a separate attachment for this.Instructions will be in the manual.
