    Hi all,

I am confused to buy sewing machines here. I stitch frequently when i was in India. So thought of buying a machine with least options as i am not interested in embroidery. Can someone throw in your ideas in buying a machine?

I would get a basic Brother or Janome. If you are a member of Costco they often have these on sale.
Otherwise try going to a fabric store like JoAnn's. They always have a selection of machines and you can see which one fits you best.

Same as the posters before me - Brother - is the best machine if you are just looking for basic sewing. I have one that I got from Sears in 2000 and so far it has worked perfectly well (touch wood)

Costco has sewing machines in the section with small kitchen appliances. They don't have much choice however.
If you find something you like in a retail store you can check if it is cheaper online.
For fabrics I like JoAnn's. You can get good prices if you use coupons. The selection in store may be limited but they have plenty online. We have a good independent fabric store here which has a nice range. There must be something similar in your area as well.
    I also like Fabric.com

I bought a brother 15 years ago, it was working really well and when my mom was here she was stitching it alot . That was something close to first model i gave earlier But then , we been moving so many times from here to there, and used it with converter , this and that... kinda abused it now it really doesn't work properly. I can't blame the machine, it was us who did not use it well. It was 25 year warranty, but then shipping and handling is going to cost me.

One small repair cost 5 bucks anyways , like resizing a salwar or adding an extra stitch to a pants, I think it worth buying another one.
