Default Kfi

Planning on moving to chennai soon and start my kids in school June 2010. Could someone tell me about THE SCHOOL KFI in Besant Nagar. My kids will be 9 and 6 next year and have been going to school here in USA. I am considering Vel's Billabong also currently. Any suggestions on making the transition easy as well as good education for my children will be very useful. Thanx!

Default Vidya mandir for NRI students

Hello all,

I have been reading about schools in Chennai a lot. So far I have narrowed down my list to Vidya mandir and Vales billabong in terms of not only good academics but also all round development. I dont know about vidya mandir but Vales BB has good sports and lab facilities too. Also Vales BB is an internaitonal school and has a good reputation for making transition easy for NRI children.

My question regarding Vidya mandir is...what is the teacher student ratio and are there children who moved from abroad to chennai in elementary classes. if so how is the school helpful in making the transition smooth?

If any of you have difrect personal experience or information regarding the above questions please guide me. Thank you!

Unhappy Please respond

Hi,
I have been posting for some time now with my questions. May be because it is the usual questions and there is lots of resources existing, no one has responded to my. Here we go one more time...

I live in USA and will be relocating to Chennai in about 9months so that my children (9yr old daughter and 6 yr old son) can start school in June at Chennai. The same scenario as any NRI children: Born and raised so far in USA they have never attended school in Chennai. Although they understand Tamil really well and are very very close to family both in Chennai and in USA, both children do not speak, read or write tamil.

Now, when short listing schools, my criteria were
1. Syllabus (
CBSE and ICSE are OK)
2. Facilities (
bathroom, sports, lab)
3. Student Teacher Ratio (
prefer 1:25 max)
4. Coaching for second language
5. Extra Curricular activities (
focusing on all round development)
6. General awareness of faculty and management toward education system abroad so that my children's initial anxiety will be better understood (
guess thats a little selfish on my end..but oh well, they are my children and I only wish for the best scenario always).

I will be living somewere in Adyar, Thiruvanmiyur area so ofcourse schools in that vicinity was also one of the criteria.

From reading all the threads in this forum (which by the way is excellent. thanx to all of the contributors), I understand that international schools and newer schools in the ouirts with already established reputed managemnts(vidya mandir, millenium etc) are my options. Considering the area I will reside I wish to have atleast 3 schools short listed so that when I come over to visit them and get application my trip will be worth while.

Question for you expert helpers : Please help me decide on 3 schools that fit my criteria listed above. Am sure you have done the same for many others. Kindly guide me and get aaaalllllllll my blessings

Thank you for your patient reading!

Hi

Considering all the criteria you have put forth, the three schools I would vote for, are Abacus Perungudi...... The School, KFI, Adyar and Navadisha, Velachery.

All the three are child friendly schools and have a humane approach towards education. These schools do not believe in a rigorous board exam / entrance oriented education for children, and come as a refreshing change in the schools scenario in Chennai....Radha

Dear AAAA,

You can try Padma Sheshadri, Mrs.Y G P School and Chettinad Vidhyashram. You can expect International standards there.
