Default Are all schools recognized by the Government?

Hi,

Should all schools (CBSE/Matriculation/State Board) be registered/recognized by the Government? I don't know what this "recognition" means but I saw in one school admission advertisement that their school was recognized by the Government (so does this mean that not all schools are recognized?).
I got admission for my son in Holy Cross Matriculation School, Gerugambakkam, Chennai. But I didn't find this word "Government Recognized" in any other their forms or pamphlet, neither was it in their office notice board. Hence I asked about it in their office whether they are authorized by the Government to run the school. They said that have the approval for upto 8th standard but they didn't show/give anything in writing. They are also saying that their school is ISO:9001 certified and hence no need to worry about this (they might have verified all these) .

How to know if this or any school is authorized by the Government? Is there any website or link that maintains the UPDATED list of registered schools in Chennai?

Thanks & Regards,
Satish

Hi Satish , if the school authorities can not show their recognition then there is something wrong .
All schools must be registered with the Government and registration certificate must be shown
when we (as a parent of prospective student) ask for it ... see also Schools - Tamilnadu

Satish,

For a school to be affliated with a state, cbse, icse or whatever board, it needs to pass certain norms prescribed by the board, like the school area, number of students in each class, the principal's qualification and labs, libraries and such. most of the schools get into the groove only by the time the classes get to the 7th/8th. and some schools wait till they are eligible.

the school has to put its affliation number on the school name board display and also when it gives out ads.

sometimes some affliations are also revoked. so to know more about that, you need to keep track from the website of these boards

for the state raagini has given the link. for cbse, you could check the affliation here. and for icse

Though the affliation guidelines are very clear and promising, i doubt how many schools follow them sincerely.
