Default moving to Chennai

Hello all,

I just joined IL and it looks great. Lot of useful information! My family and I are planning to move to India (Chennai) from US in April. I have twins who will be joining 6th grade in June. We have sort of decided on Billabong school but are not sure if that is the best option for higher grades. We want them to be as comfortable as possible atleast for the first year. Can anyone give us some suggestions on this?

Thanks

Hello Manjukanth

My uncle too moved to chennai in 2006, after spending 12 years in US.
My nieces are studying in Chettinad vidhyashram and they feel comfortable with studies over there.
They are in 9th and 6th grade now and they have good friends in the school.

PSBB, DAV are also good choices.

Hope it helps.

Manjukanth,

Welcome to il, all the best to return to india.

Billabong, I hear makes the transition really better for most children. since you do have 6th grade in the school, and changing school at 7th grade does not affect the child much because of the child being a teen with a little more understanding.

If easy transition is the only criteria for your selection of school, go ahead.
If you are looking at academics, may be you could have your research, after landing in chennai, and you will have one full year to take a decision based on that.

because what works for one need not work for the other.

Hi Manjukanth,

Welcome to IL. I returned to India too last year and I did put my kids in Billabong for the transition for one year. They really enjoyed it there. It is a very good school. Now my kids are in Spartan CBSE in Mogappair. Where are u going to live in Chennai. It will be easy to find a school in that area or you can do the other way decide on the school and then find a place around the school. Let me know if u need anymore info.

Goodluck with ur move,

Jothi.

Hi Jothi,

Thanks for the reply. I have seen your previous posts on Billabong and wanted to get in touch with you. Was the transition easy for your kids? Is 1 year sufficient for the change. My kids (twins) are in 5th grade now, so may find schools there a bit challenging. I was wondering if there were any apts in Injambakkam within walking distance to the school(high hopes?)We have decided on Billabong and are looking for apts in that area only.

Manjukanth,

I am not sure if there are any apt. complexes near injambakkam area. I have seen apt complexes in neelankarai near the old billabong campus. You will definitely find individual houses for rent in that area. Regarding transition my kids really found it very easy and they were able to make friends there since there are so many other children like ours who also came from the US. The system is also very kid friendly, less homework. I wanted a little but more academic oriented school, so we moved my kids after 1 year.

Jothi.

Hi Niti,

I don't think there will be a problem with Billabong. As far as I know they don't have a waiting list and getting admission there is easy. You can try sending them an email..Good luck
