| My niece has to shift to Nanganallur as she has built a house there. She asked me about good schools in that area. I told her that it is not important where the children study as long as you as parents care to spend at least an hour every day to know what the have learnt in school that day.. My husband was in the Govt. service and we had to pack our bags every two or three years. My children have studied in all types of schools ranging from Thinnai Pallikoodam to govt schools in the places where my husband was posted. In pite of all this they had not only topped their classes ,but managed IIT, and other higher education. This is because as parents, my husband I took personal interest in their studies. Children need this attention. When I ask youngsters to day they say,We have no time." Interested parents make good teachers according to me.I think distance education if introduced at school level will save money time and heartaches and rid the society of corruption in education. | Hi Shanthi, Thanks for the reply and that was quite a thread that you have written in about choosing the school. As you have rightly pointed out, 'faculty' is of prime importance. Its very sad that now a days the teachers are not as interested as they were in the past and the co-curricular activities which is somehow neglected. This is what makes it difficult for the parent to choose the right school, and, if we have found one, admission to such a school becomes extremely difficult! | Dear Mrs. Lakshmi, Thanks for the reply and it is quite inspiring. I understand how it would have been for you to have to pack the bags when your children where studying and its good that they have made it to great heights with your efforts. Yes, I agree that as paretnts we have to spend our time with them and guide them. But, I felt that its in a school where our children spend most of the time, the teachers would be able to spot their strengths and weakness and help them become a better personality. We can only help them to study, but, the platform for exposing and exploring oneself has to be provided by the school. A child who is naive and needs some push, will shine only if she is encouraged by the teachers also. Regards Poornima. |
