Sankara, Headstart. St. Michaels are really good from the academic point of view. Vel's Billabong is relatively new and do not know about it . Gateway is new to me, have not heard of it. Sishya, you have to register when pregnant, I too like Shanvy have heard that kids become arrogant and too hep to handle when form Sishya. St. Johns I know only anout the one in Mylapore, that good too. Hope this helps, all the best.

I studied in Sri Shankara Vidyalaya Matriculation in Velachery Road Tambaram. I studied from second std to 12th standard. It is a Hindu school, every friday you will have prayers followed by bajans, i mean additional prayer time in friday. Good school.

I still remember all those bajans, prayer which i sing for my 3 yr old daughter.

There are many Shankara schools. Now there is shankara college near the shankara school.

My small cousin brothers are still in this school. It is like a family school. Everyone in my family attented that school.

Sorry i cant help you with those ratings bcos i dont know or heard of the other schools as i was out of the country for the last 7-8 years.

Where are you going to reside, try to do somewhere close by bcos travelling is not easy or the kids. Then they will have homeworks. Dont stress them by putting in school very far just bcos you heard that is good. Whichever school you go the students finally end up in tuitions in the evening.

Hi Nithya,

I've been out of home since 8 years now but we keep in touch with the school system in chennai coz someone or the other in the family talks about it. My husband studied in Shankara, Adyar from LKG to 12th and knowing all his friends I can vouch that they are very academically oriented. And my niece is in St.John's, Besant nagar (UKG) and i can feel that she's good. My personal opinion would be your child is just starting kg so don't get into these so-called schools for NRI's (i don't mean any offence since I don't know how these schools function... they might be good too!). Let him mingle with local kids and you can always change schools later. Good luck!
