Default Punishments In School

hello friends,

when i saw the indian express front page about a 7 year old girl is punished for not writing fast, i wanted to bang that teacher .........

i felt a lot when i read that because my daughter was harrassed by teachers right from her prep I ( LKG ) till she came to 6th std, in the same way

then we assessed her and found that she was dyslexic,
by God's grace i came across Shanvy through IL and she gave me a special school contact no. now my daughter is studying in that school, she is not pressurised much, she is exempted from 2nd language.

i feel all the teachers should undergo a training in special education so that they can find out if any child needs a special ed. in their class. Special Education should be made mandatory in B.Ed courses.

regards
padma

padma,

It is becoming a norm in schools...the teachers punishing children..they just take out their frustations on the poor kids....

Partiallity, frustations, anger, punishments is something I hear as a routine. It is one of the incidents that you have read.

Was it in december/november, a girl's hair was chopped off by the teacher for wearing it in a different style.

I even discussed a boy committing suicide, because the teacher had remarked he was fit for nothing.

When I was in a mri diagnostic centre...a 3.5 year kid was brought in for mri brain scan..the reason the baby was slower than others...to me the girl looked very normal.

How I wish the old scheme of school at 6 comes back. the kids can enjoy childhood. There would have been adhd, dyslexic children even then. but the patience, the joint family system and the environment at home everthing would have helped along with the school teachers dedications.

Infact, when we were in 10th, we used to have a classmate, who used to forget everything taught in the morning by afternoon. we all classmates used to help her, learn it..by each of telling her the answer...and our teachers used to know..and they also used to help her...I find that a rarity.

Teachers need to know how to assess the potential of a child. To help the child when it is excelling in something and also to guide when lagging..They need to learn patience and relaxation techniques...

All said about teachers..the parents are also at fault...some of the parents forget to teach the kids to help each other..they teach them selfishness ..so many things...

there is a vast change..where to start and where to end...children are children...all mothers carry them for 10 months...the pain, the anxiety is the same....

So children are dear to me...all children..so if i have helped krithi it is because of this instinct.. and to know that she is happy..is really making me happy..If not me somebody else would have been instrumental....god bless her..she will be very fast, back in the main stream..what with such loving mother and sister.....

I happened to read abt the7 yr old kid..I feel that strict rules shud be implemented reg punishments given in schools..
Even the LKG kids(in some schools)r being pressurised to write..The teachers pressurise the parents an they in turn pressurise the kids..i feel that practically there shud be no writing till 6 yrs or 5 atleast..Even experts say that kids's motor skills wud be fully developed(to hold a pencil correctly) only around 5yrs..

Cheers
Ramya

Padmavathi,
There r teachers who have undergone training in spl education even in reputed schools..But unfortunately they r not willing to take up the kids to give spl attn...They just say that a particular child is dylexic and recommend spl schools for them

Cheers
Ramya

Ramya,

There are strict rules about punishments in schools by government. There was this case of the teacher giving electric shock to kids who did not concentrate in the class. The teacher was not guilty. the school justified the teacher.

We as parents should take a stand that we want the child to go into lkg at 4. (but in chennai there are children going to kg at 2.5..) and moreover the syllabbus followed in all schools should have a uniformity. you can see a great parity in cbse schools itself.

Yes motor nerves are formed only by 5yrs. We as parents are now aware of all this. but how many parents follow it. they are under pressure ofcourse it is self made pressure, that their child should perform. there are parents who pressurise the kid to perform...

Padma,

I also read about it. even if the parent goes to the police or ngo's or pta, these teachers will be left scot free.

I had written about the teacher who gave electric shock to his students as they were not listening in the physic period.

And also there are too many cases of punishments that I hear. but parents don't go for the fear for their child. the child will be marked.

Just imagine this, the teacher in a govt school pinches a girl on her nipples..making the girl scream..why it seems the teacher is dark, and is flat chested and has a complex...(this happened to the sister of the maid who works for my neighbours. and she said that the sister has begged her not to complain as the other teachers will form a group and make life miserable )

Teachers bring their emotional and frustations to the school...they need counselling. otherwise, children are going to be scarred for life.

Hi Padma and Shanthi
Oh Reading all your posts was real shocking use to read many article on these in the news papers. Such things usually never happened outside India especially the places I have gone becoz here the kids are given more importants and equally strict with the kids but they are not cruel to the kids or the teacher will be thrown out and cannot teach in any school through out the country.
