Hi Jithiks,

Thank you for your valuable inputs! I'm happy to know that your kids are in Advanced classes.

I would like to know about chinese math and if anybody have any thoughts about it.

Thanks!

Kumon and beestar.org are very different.

Kumon focuses on practicing calculations. Repeating practice and a lot of worksheets. It helps your child build a solid math foundation.

Beestar is more on problem solving. Its free weekly math provides many word problems. Most children like Beestar better, because its problems are fun and related to real life. Beestar has reading, science, and social studies as well, but they are not free.

I am new! I saw so many posts here about math program, and would like to share the one I like.

I like KUMON in a way that my kids can advance at their speed. I like Beestar because they have good problem solving problems. I was hoping there is a program that my kids can follow and advance at their speed.

A Chinese friend at work recently told me about Noetic Learning and its StayAhead! program, an online program advances at your child's speed, but focuses a lot more on problem solving skills.

They have many online math programs too. Its worksheet creator helps your children to practice basic math operation and concepts. Speed and accuracy in basic math is always important. It also has a summer program. .... The programs are very affordable. You can find them online by googling Noetic Learning

Hi Soccermom,

Thanks for the info about the Noetic learning.

My kids are already in kumon, but this site does provide free worksheets that I can surely make them practice.

Cheers

If you are new to this site, it's fantastic(beestar .org). The questions are problem-solving type, good to help kids thinking.

I saw a lot of kids from California on Beestar's Honor Roll list. So I look for suggestions here. I wonder if I should take English (ELA) and GT math from them as well, those 2 are paid exercises but only $20-$30 for semester, really nothing compared to Kumon. Most of all, my kid asked more things to do from Beestar site.

My quesion is if I register for beestar ELA, should I go ahead drop Kumon entirely? I am getting a bit tired of paying and driving for kumon, and recently kids lose interest since the formats are kind of boring.

I appreciate if you have any suggestion about beestar and kumon.

Thanks.
I don't know whether Kumon is good, for we haven't tried it before. But I would really like to choose Beestar.
It is a website full of free math practice, English programs, social studies and Gifted & Talented programs. My little Emma started school last year, but she really hated the boring math. Then her teacher recommended Beestar to us. She began to like doing the weekly math practice, because there are interesting stories and vivid pictures for kids. She also likes checking the honor roll every week, and she is so happy when her name appears. Registering as parent, I can receive the Email from beestar every week to notice me how Emma was doing in beestar. I am considering registering other programs for her.

Hi! My 8 yo daughter is also using beestar. Beestar offers 2 curriculum-based exercises of math, English language art, science, etc. respectively every week. All the exercises are timed. They are very cute, full of interesting stories, pictures and very close to life, focusing on fostering kids’ ability of solving problems in life.

Default Best $20 You Can Spend - msg from my friend

Want to give your child some extra help to excel in school? Then sign your
child up for beestar.org programs.

Beestar.org - Math and Reading for Kids

The math programs are FREE. The reading and language arts programs are $20
per semester.

This is FAR BETTER than any book of worksheets you can buy. I strongly
encourage you to check out the site today, sign up for the free math
programs and test out the sample language and reading pages. This site will
go a long way to improving your child's TAKS scores.

**Side Note** I supplement the Language Curriculum with materials that can
be found in regular book stores. PLEASE, please, please do NOT go buy your
child his/her own copy of those workbooks. Doing the exact same work at home
as we do in class will be more of a problem than it is a help.
