Nick names

I call my daughter ammu at home. I I call her in full name then she will know I'm angry or upset with her.

I used to call my daughter as Kuttiamma.

 

Reminds me of the Hindi movie "The Namesake" where the little boy is fondly called Gogol, he perfers that everyone at school address him as Gogol

When he grows up. his other American friends make fun of his name.. & he is embarassed & more shocked when his wife too joins in the fun..

I address my kids by nicknames, depending on the situation.

there is not much in the pros and cons list, that if your child will not learn to respond to the given name if he is too used to the nick name, when at school or outside..it is always better to use the given name in between.

I use my kids.. full name, along with surname only when i am at my wits end which means they have to take check...

 

I am happy to know I am not the only one who does this Big Laugh. Kiran has no surname, just two names of his own. When I call out K's full name, he stops in his tracks. Otherwise, he is Kiran - cant shorten that.

 

Ohh even i do that... the moment i call her nagla she will show long face and stop immediately...

 

I don't have nicknames..just Tarun and Varun..if I am wild with Tarun,I call him Mr.Tarun:rotfl.
