Default Dyslexia in Kids

Hello everybody,

Has anyone heard abt dyslexia or Learning Disability. Now a days its become so common that 2 out of 10 kids are dyslexic. But the sad thing is most of us in India are still not aware of dyslexia in kids especially school going kids. Even the teachers are not aware of it. Since the disability is not visible none of them want to accept it.
Is anybody familiar with it pl let me know
i just want to know the schools which admit dyslexic kids

Regards

Mother of a dyslexic kid

hi ramya,

That is good news yaar. i know a very reputed school asked the parents to put the kid in special school as the kid was not writing fast and talking normally......the doctors pronounced the kid normal...and she was brought in for a mri by the desperate parents....imagine a 3.5yrs kid how much she is going to write/talk...

Hi Shanti , Ramya

Thank u very much. we stay in perambur. can u pl give me the details of Jawahar Vidyalaya.
i have already changed 3 schools. now she is in 6th std. again if i have to change her school i shd have the clear picture of the school, so that my dys daughter will not have any probs with the new environment and teachers.
. as shanti told me abt alphatoomega i had taken my daug to MDA, Alphato Omega for assessments. she really has dysgraphia a problem in writing she is orally thorough in all her subjects especially in maths she is good. she is good in music 2 months back she won 3rd place in music competition. now the school where she is studying the teachers always label her as fit for nothing, dull , slow learner, etc., the princi of this school has told me that she would detain her in the same class this year . with all these her self esteem has gone so low she hates her school, friends, teachers. she likes her music teacher very much. i am so friendly to her, give her unconditional love. i tell her that studies is only a period in her life and that not to worry whether she is detained or not. i am totally confused. pl let me know what to do if she is detained this year? can i put her in another school or give her home schooling. pl help me
regards
padma

[quote=padmavathi m;151728]Hello everybody,

Hi,

I'am from bangalore and reputed schools here are very much familiar about this word dyslexia. I work for a school called mallya aditi international school. Here we teachers both subject and class teacher meet occasionally and discuss performance of all the students and if we come across learning difficulty problem across all subject we recommend him/her to meet our school counsellor. They in turn will diagnose the problem through various tests and give suggestions.

Regards
Anitha

Hi padma,

I am happy and convey my congrats for her winning music comp..at the same time really feel bad..for your daughter. how can a teacher be so heartless. but i am seeing more and more of these kind... my son and daughter both used to attend keyboard classes. the master started comparing and told my son you cannot do it..you are not fit for it... (the master thought they were twins..because of the height..when he is 3 years younger...) till date he does not like to go for the classes...

So if she only has a little problem writing why dont you check on the upfront with jawahar stating that you dont want to move her as she has come to 6th. Otherwise talk to sankalp...they have some special training and they certify putting them back in mainstream school.
Or talk to alphato omega about what is best for her if jawahar does not accept.
Home schooling should be the last resort as it will be a blow on her confidence and more so if the younger goes to regular school.
just make her write more. Tell the school not to detain her. try to talk to them again. be confident and proud about yourself and your daughter. put a braver front asking them to reconsider..

Hi Shanti,

Yesterday as soon as i posted to u , i spoke to sankalp. They have fixed an appt for both of us me and my daughter on 10th oct'07 i e tomorrow I think sankalp shd be the last place for her assessment. This quarterly exams she has failed in all the subjects. so the class teacher is really angry on her makes her kneel down outside her classroom, her classmates teased her, with all these she is so reluctant to go to school. It is like a war to fight with my near and dear ones and the people around us, becos nobody understands her probs they all tell that i am lazy to teach her it seems. Now everything i have left it to God. It is he who has created her into this world, he ll definitely open several doors for her if he has closed one.

thank u verymuch
padma
