Dear Chithra please do take it easy......

I did mean to say that, what ever the extra curricular activity may be... it will have weightage with the admissions board of selective colleges only if they are convinced that the candidate is passionate about it.

for other colleges which are greatful to have students attend their colleges , it doesn't matter.

By selective colleges i mean the ivies of which we had personal experience just 2 years back with our daughter. Amissions into these are natural only for a very gifted few or for legacy students for others it is a very meticulous planned activity the preperations for which start from middleschool itself.

Wow he is a tournament tennis and golf player!!!! how come such a young man is interested in golf?? does tiger woods have something to do with it??

take care,

Blondie,
Thanks for your inputs. My daughter is in QB, Odyssey of mind, and is in basket ball. But she is not playing for her school team. Is that okay?

Blondie and Shobana,
Can you please let me know when is the correct time to apply for colleges? As I told earlier, my DD is in eleventh grade. I am getting prepared.

Thank you!

regards,
Sindhu

Hi Sindhuja - great to hear about your daughter's accomplishments. Not playing for the school team in basketball - dont worry about those things. Usually college admissions are looking for well rounded kids. As for when to apply to college - that starts in the fall of her senior year - but most of them have deadlines in Nov - Jan. This again depends on whether she wants to get early decision in some schools - her school counselor is a great resource for this. Believe me, your daughter will know a lot about this - I was sort of clueless when all this started last year! You will learn as you go - my daughter wanted to handle this all by herself - and she did! Talk about being independent! We had some tug of wars in our house at that time - am so glad it is behind us now! Blondie can probably shed some light on this as well.

Dear Shobana and Blondie,
My DD has signed up for the high school band. She is so excited. She has promised that she would manage her time efficiently. Hope she keeps up her promise. It took me so long to arrive to a final decision. Thank you for your inputs.

regards,
Sindhu

That is great - I know it will be a lot of hard work but trust me the exprience she gets out of it will be life long. If after this year she feels like that it is too much, she can always drop out next year - no pressure!
