| dear mythili, You are right. Even unpleasant truth can be communicated pleasantly. But in my anxiety I overstepped my limits. At one point in the fight the old man shouted at me in chaste English, "What is your problem, tell me." It was then I realised that I had gone overboard. Could not come back at that time. Quote:
Thanks to your prayers and those of all my friends here in IL, the incident ended well. Thank God the luggage rack became vacant at Trichy. Otherwise I would still be in debt to that old man. thanks for the fb, Mythili. regards,

| Dear Varaloti Sir, Another astounding write up and a very relatable one I must add. At some point of life we have all been foolish enough to act with an inflated ego only to be deflated when you face GOD.! Well I have heard about the humility of Rajnikant and many other stars. Living life ostentatiously to make a mark and masking yourself would only stifle the real you. After all how long can you put up a masquerade!! When I find something really bad to handle as in some words flowing which shocks me I merely prefer to keep quiet. My Granny used to say "Maunam Vidhwana Bhushanam,so I prefer to be quiet! A great person K along with a friend was once abused by somebody.K merely listened and said nothing. After a while this abuser stopped and walked away. K's friend asked him ,"why didnt you react"? K said, When you give me something and I dont accept it , to whom does it belong?" The friend said,"Back to me" ."Exactly my friend, thats the point he gave something I didnt accept so those abuses go back to him". Its better to be quiet than say something you regret. After all we all know that spent arrows and spoken words cannot be taken back. Sir I am very happy you accepted your fault and decided to do something about it. Helps remove the heaviness of your chest isnt it! The nagging feeling is gone and you are relieved. I feel many more of us should adopt the attitude of helping others .I guess we need to understand that there is so much happiness in giving! ITs almost like Moksh! Vanities of Life are Fleeting. He only lives who lives for others , the rest are more dead than alive!! Love, Devika

| Oh,dear Sridhar, to day morning when I got up I was low in spirits,I don't know why.Read your post and am back to my normal self.Thank you for cheering me up. Now that everybody knows that you are a fighting cock as well besides being a fantabulous writer,we still love you the way you are,a friend is a friend. No human being is perfect,if all of us were very perfect, there won't be any threads in il no?And we would all be angels not human beings.Every human being is a bundle of contradictionssometimes, embodiment of patience other times a short tempered bully. These variations in a persons moods also make life colourful I suppose. All the best for a great day,may this and the coming days bring you success and joy only. mithila kannan

| Dear Malathi, Your experience with Rajnikanth was a good read and served as a beautiful supplement to whatever I had told in this thread about him. When the eminent Jurist Palkivala was waitinng in the queue to board a plane, the head of the airport ran up to him and asked him to move ahead. The great man sternly refused and insisted on boarding with the 'Aam Jantha" You are right. That happens more in places of worship than elsewhere. I should add a caveat here, Malathi. While we should be considerate, we should never give up our rights, especially in favour of those who want to usurp them just for their personal advantage. I could never tolerate somebody jumping in the queue. When I was doing my SSLC I was standing in the queue to get tickets for the movie Thavapudhalvan. A policeman jumped the queue to get tickets for his boss. I was so wild with rage that in spite of my Dad's protests, I started shouting at him, you know, in English. As a policeman he could have done anything and got away from me. He did a strange thing. He told me softly, "Thambi enakku ungala madhiri English pesa theriyadhu. Enga appan enna padikka vaikkala. Athaan inda velaikku vandhu yaarukko ticket vangittu irukken" I was stunned into silence. Without a word I let him jump the queue. But I still feel that we should stand for our rights but make an exception in deserving cases. As this happens mostly in places of worship, like you, I have stopped going to crowded temples. Quote:

| dear pavithra, thanks. I do not have any great messages to share with you, only simple home truths. At times it looks great in the light of circumstances. One blessing is that I always know the mistakes I do. Many times I know my mistake even while I am doing that. But many times I could not correct myself. This time I could do that and hence I wrote the post. I think I should balance this with another post where I failed to mend myself. thanks a lot for the nice words, Pavithra. regards, Quote:

11 years back we had a professional problem. A big company refused to pay us a huge amount due to us, because they said, that somebody from our office had shouted at them. The person who shouted at them did the right thing, because the answers the company gave were not responsible. But then when I visited them in person, they insisted that I should apologise to the lady executive; otherwise they wont pay. The person who came along with me told me, "Sridhar, dont do that. It will be beneath your stature." I was hesitant at first. But remembered the swimming incident. I went to the lady's room and told her that I really felt bad about what had happened. I told her that I am sorry and would like to apologise in any way she liked. I felt very good after saying that. She just smiled and cleared the payment. The payment was not due to us but to another investor who had invested a huge amount in that company on my advice. Quote:

| Dear Jey, After reading your beautiful write-up I feel that yours should have been the leader post of this thread and my post just a fb to your wonderful post. As our master writer Vidya so clearly put it, you have a way with the words and I simply love it. The way you confess I think you deserve the title superstar better than me. I was moved to tears reading about the incident in Turkey. I would love to immortalise that incident by writing a story on that. Do I have your permission for that, jey? You are right about the feelings of the old man. He had a shocked look in his face for a long time and then went to sleep. But you should see the smile on his face when I asked him if I could place the luggage on the rack. he continued to smile for a long time. When the train touched Chennai Egmore half an hour behind schedule, I again volunteered to take his bags off the rack. Another person also joined me and he removed one bag, and I the other. The old man mumbled a simple thanks to the other man. But to me he said an enthusiastic thanks. You see I am a bad guy reformed into a good one. And he wanted to encourage me. I got down from Vaigai with more love than when I got in. But how long will it last? Only She knows. love,

| Sriniketan, thanks for understanding. You have touched another chord in me. While I am definitely not the ideal person I portray in my stories and serials, I at least want to be like that. I pray God that I should be made more loving. That seems like a high order even for the Almighty. You are right. Incidents like these give unnecessary tension and many times spoil the whole day. The price we are paying is disproportionately high. Quote:

| Dear Mindi, I was thrilled to know that you too had met our superstar and spent half an hour in his company. Great. It is better to be tongue-tied, Mindi, rather than regretting the words we had uttered to a person like Super star. I too liked Kamla's incident. But I love her punch line. She says that she dished out the burnt piece to her hubby retaining the golden piece for herself. In the next line she says, that the golden piece had never tasted so awful. That speaks about her golden heart and the golden lesson hidden in the papad incident. Quote:
thanks for the nice fb, Mindi.

| Dear GF, Being my GF I don't want you to carry any wrong thoughts about me. May be I narrated the incident because I had the rare privilege of rectifying the mistake. Had I not been able to correct my error, I would not have written about it at all. So please don't judge me based on this. Out of a hundred mistakes I commit every day, I have been able to rectify only about five or six. I want you to carry this proportion in your mind, while making value judgments on me. This incident is just a tip of the ice berg, a good tip at that. The whole of the iceberg is surely not as good as the tip, which I have cared to show to you all. Quote:
