Though now it may sound like a broken record, I join Vidya and Bhargavi to say that it is yet one of the best that has come out of your pen!

How true Sridhar, we try to project ourselves as this good person and only we ourselves know our weaknesses and mistakes.

People mistakenly think that if you do something bad you get punished afterwards. But the truth is doing a bad act in itself is a punishment. Similarly doing a good act is in itself its reward.

Those lines are simply wonderful and very very true. I think you excel when you write about real incidents from your life.....my observation :)

I am no fan of anyone really and not at all of Rajnikant! But come to think of it, I have often thought how real and natural he is in his 'off movie' pics and comes across as a nice person from whatever I read here and there. Now I like him! He has to thank you...ha ha ha.

Kudos to you for drawing parallels with him and your story.
And you know what Varalotti...If you are this untold villain, I am a villy too!!!! Whenever I have had a bitter show down with my hubby, I take secret pleasure in giving him the more burnt out papad while I take the nice golden one for myself! But hey...must mention that my papad then tastes awful...;)))))

what can i say...there are only a few adjectives in my vocabulary, and every one seem to have used them previously... :)
anyway....all of us mistakes, but what differentiates people is the realisation of it and seeking oppurtunities to set it right...
it was such a sweet gesture of you ....

i have seen people who claim to be well-read, but are insensitive to other's feelings... what is the use of all the knowledge if you can't show a little love and concern for your fellow men....

as you say, the punishment for a wrong is the act itself...having to live with the weight of it on our conscience...

and btw, of course, you are the super star of IL... :)

Fights in trains and buses for luggages and seats is a common sight these days. But how many of us are bothered to rethink on what we have spoken and done? A another person in you place could have just felt 'victorious ' over his act of winning and moved on. After all, are we going to see that guy's face again? No way!

But I liked the sensitivity you have shown towards a stranger. It requires a lot of guts and a good heart to be nice to a person whom you fought with, an hour back. I really really admire that soft heart in you...BUT....

I am sooooo sorry I cannot equate you to Thalaivar!!!!!! :)) Can u swing eyeglasses does he does? or can you toss a cigarette high in the air and straight into his mouth as he does??? No! Not only you, my dear V noone can !:D I am die hard fan of thalaivar!

Well, you disappointed me !
On reading the title, I thought somebody recognised you on the train, heaped praises on you knowing the most famous Varalotti from Madurai & offered to treat you with thavala vadai, sudana poli, bun-butter-jam, bread-omelette, tomato soup, hot hot masal dosai etc etc at their cost!

Well, that was one sure way I am not a super star. I have never been recognised either as a writer or as an accountant or as an ILite so far. Once we were in a hotel in Mugappair. I knew that there are a few ILites around in that area. I was telling my wife, well this, could be Laxmi or that could be Varloo. But none of that ever came true.
The closest thing to recognition happened yesterday. I had a call on my mobile. The person asked me if I was Varalotti Rengasamy. When I confirmed he said, "Sir, I am the President of Varalotti Panchayat. I am happy that you have made our village popular. I would love to come and eet you and invite you to our village...."

Oh, so, you want us to know that you proved to be a good Samaritan !!

Wrong again, Madam. I was a bad Samaritan, if you can call me so. But the redeeming factor was that I recognised my badness and was able to share that with you all.

I am very happy to receive my first fb from you. I am thrilled to receive the fb from a person named Vaidehi. About an year ago some woman who got herself registered in the name of Vaidehi(with some small changes in the name like vaixxdxxhi etc) was taunting me with her words, that my heart was almost broke. So getting a good fb from Vaidehi now feels really heavanly. thanks.

Personally i feel Repenting on our wrong deeds is the greatest Punishment in itself, And accepting and correcting it requires Large heart and big Mind isn't it.....

Repenting is not the punishment Vaidehi. Doing the bad deed is the punishment in itself.

Thanks, Sundari. You are right. Small irritants many times take away our precious peace of mind. But for the opportunity given to me to repair the wrong I had done, the rest of the journey could have been real hell.

Yes,I also like Rajnikanth,the human being more than the super star that he is projected to be.He comes across as a humble man,the neighour next door,even though a multi millionaire neighbour he is.
