Very happy to know that your husband is a "R". But I honestly think that your husband is good in human relations. May be he scores less on "street smartness" That is perfectly okay, Sriniketan. And that in a way ensures a happy marriage.
But in R's case his basic human relations skill was a problem.

Thinking about R and his plight in this world made my heart heavy and hence the rest. We'll resume the journey soon.

Earlier I thought that you were dragging this thread by writing about Madurai city - like a tourist guide ! Though I admit that the way you talk about things are very interesting , I was more concerned ( (rather worried ) about the response from our dear Gfs . Now I’m relieved & happy after seeing the wonderful response from our friends ! So … like others I’m ready to walk with you to any distance ( Its absolutely up to you to decide when to stop & return) ,ok ?

Students being bold enough to tell their views can be listed in the rare category only . I ‘m proud that you are one among them ! The teacher apologizing for his mistake is a rare thing too . But don’t say it can happen ONLY in ur college( American college) – the English professor in our college ( Music college ) was also a person like that . I used to point out her mistakes boldly , as you did . She would not only apologize to me but would also tell all her colleagues about my boldness & intelligence ( don’t start laughing … It’s her comment only , ok ? ) proudly !

I agree with you ! Till date , I have contact with my dear professors & we are more like friends only !

I pity ur classmate R for his present state . Had he listened to ur advice , he would have come up in life . I feel sorry for such geniuses who haven’t got proper recognition in the society & inside their homes too .

What is this, you have also started with the namavali archanai and all? Thanks for agreeing to walk with me. But the problem is that once I got immersed in walking I don't know when to stop. So you should tell me when should we stop.
I am using these threads not to just describe a walk. But also what happens in my mind and heart when I walk past the great milestones of Madurai. With my roots so deep in this temple city, having lived in this town for half a century, I know every pothole in every road, every platform, every lane in this town. As I walk up the streets of the city I am simultaneously walking down the memory lane. That's something which I can't help. Blame it on age. But that is what it is. So I might be dragging you and our GFs sometimes.

As a student I was virtually a coward. Only in academics I wont be myself. When something is wrong I cant help telling it right in the class. May be I had that "faul-finding streak" (thappu kandu pidiche per vaangum pulavarkal irukkiraarkal - type) in me.That made me a CA and when we go for audit many a time I find fault with other's work though I am not sure whether I could do the work myself half as good as it is done by my auditees.

Sorry Madam. I agree your college also had such lecturers. I don't require your professor's certificate for your boldness and intelligence. I know your boldness as many a time I have been its target. And about your intelligence I know even better. There is a great, incontrovertible proof of your intelligence.

But having spent the best part of this afternoon walking around Madurai and also following all the fbs and thoughts of my fellow ILites, you can understand that my very little brain is too full to sort out! Suffice to say that I am totally enjoying and it has left me greedy for more.

Yes, American College has always remained something special for me. When my poem my love and hers was accepted for publication by Kaavya Bharathi, the poetry magazine brought out by SCILET, American Collged, I was thrilled. AC saw me grow from a school kid to a graduate ready to face a profession as challenging as CA.

You are right. I would like to supplement your view here. Intelligence to me includes a reasonable ability to move with fellow human beings. Intelligence like that of R's is a sort of unpackaged, raw intelligence. The famous example I used to quote in all career guidance seminars is this. The tooth paste you buy has a value for you because of its package. You are going to use only the paste. Just imagine when you pay 2 dollars for tooth paste the counter girl just gives you a handful of mushy-mushy toothpaste, without any packing? The substance is there. But it is practically useless.
To start with R had reasonable human relations skills. I don't remember his fighting with anybody in the class. But slowly a kind of bitterness settled in him. He started fighting with the system. And there lied the problem.

You will be surprised to know that our reactions outside IL is more of fighting than talking. We have taken a vow to be nice to each other in IL. Obvious reason, not to set a bad example to others. ha ha ha. Happy that you liked it.
