Dear Vidya,

To be appreciated by a writer of your stature is a blessing and in that I think I have got Her blessings in full.

Quote:
When I started reading the poem, I too felt it was rightfully about Indhu. When I saw your specification that She is not a wife or mother, but God, I just felt how easily God slips into the garbs of a mom of wifey to teach us about true love.
You hit the nail on its head. I could have done without the last stanza. But I wanted to convey that it was God and I also wanted to tell that most of the time God manifests as our mother and our wife.

As I explained earlier soon after the idea of this poem germinated in me (I think it was last Saturday) I had to take solitary ride to a hospital at the other end of the town to get some tablets for my dad. The hospital graciously offered to send the tablets through somebody the next day. But 5th was a Amavasai and 6th, prathamai. So I went there on 5th itself. I had a brush with death as the lorry coming behind me hit my motorcycle. It was She who saved me as I managed to maintain the balance with just a swerve.

The rhyming lines I had formed till then melted away while the idea remained. I came back home and once I recovered from the shock I scribbled the poem. I read it the next day, showed it to Indhu and then posted it.
Cheeniya sir's idea that the poem can be interpreted in a thousand ways is not just flattering but also edifying.
Quote:
Good versing, Sridhar Varalotti and I like this new avtar of you as a poet.
I am honoured and moved, Vidya for the kind words.
love,

Dear Varalotti Sir,

What is this week meant for? Is this a "God remembering" weeK? My latest thread on Tulsi plant under snippets forum carries the similar message of yours.

I tell you - your poem is not a poem but a MESSAGE.

Now you tell me - Why you have personified the God or Love in you as a feminine gender? You mean Madurai Meenakshi?

The feelings expressed by you are common to all human beings. But you have made a beautiful poem out of it. Very simple words but upto the mark.

But if you could translate this to Tamil, you would have become another Nakeeran of Madurai.

Dear Vanaja,

In fact every week, every second, is to be celebrated as God-remembering week or God-remembering second. I am happy to know that you had a similar message on Tulsi plant. Will definitely have a look at it.

My favourite God is Ganesa. But when we talk of God in generic terms, we always tend to use the masculine gender. Like a writer said, if God were to appear before us today in a form other than a bearded old man with tired looks, we wont simply accept that. God who is beyond time and gender can be picturised as she and her. And it need not just refer to Madurai Meenakshi.

Thanks again.

As they say in Thiruvilaiyadal, there are poets who write songs and have a name. And there are poets who find fault with others songs and thus earn a name. Nakkeeran belongs to the second category according to popular belief. Though he has written thirumurukaatru padai and other songs.
I would love to be called a nakeeran in my profession. As the function of the auditor in many cases is only fault fiding.

Thanks for the fb.

Dear

Sorry to note that you had brushed with death. But I would always say these are things which shows us SHE carried you in that crucial time otherwise we would not have been here to share the same.

I just thought I will tell you an experience which we have personally witnessed. (I have posted this somewhere here) As you are aware we were in Port Blair, Once when my dh was going to his office he met with a ghastly accident, Luckily he was taken to the government hospital there (because there are no other medical facilities) and found that he had a bad fracture on his left thumb and a scan followed but no head injuries (because his helmet had broken into two at the site of the accident)But nothing major turned out. My dh went on cribbing why me though I used to pacify him that nothing serious has happened and to be greatful to God. We also had planned to go to a nearby island for the christmas vacation but had to cancel the same becuase of the accident. On 26th December, Tsunami hit the islands and life was thrown out of gear, after 2 days we came to know that the island which we had planned to visit was washed out for 12 kms. Just can't imagine how we narrowly escaped. that is why I always say She carried us so beautifully to avoid a major catastrophe. I humbly
to her.

I have also read this quote: that once a person had a dream that he was dead and was facing God, and he could see his past life as foot prints on the sea shore. And he sees two sets of foot prints suddenly he see only one set of foot prints and these he is is able to relate was during the most difficult part of his life. So he questions God as to why he was left alone to face all the difficulties to that God replies, "dear child these are the times I carried you and what you see are my foot prints" . After reading this and the above experience, I am just dumfounded and my belief in Her has strenghtend and I beleive in her carrying us.

Soory for the long FB. Hope I have not taken your precious time and bored you.

Dear Lalitha,

I am moved by your concerned post once again in this thread when you came to know of my affair with death last Saturday which indirectly prompted me to write this poem in this present form.

When I read about how God intervened to safeguard you people from the Tsunami by giving a slight accident the day before, I was really moved.

I think you know about India's leading lawyer N.A.Palkivala who is no more. Once he was a junior counsel in M.C.Chagla's office. He was given his first case. It was to be argued before the Supreme Court of India. Palkivala's flight tickets were ready. He was thoroughly prepared and was raring to go. The day before he had a severe attack of viral fever and he could not go. He reluctantly handed over the case to his fellow junior.

But the flight he was to go crashed killing all passengers on board. Palkivala was saved by a microscopic virus which invaded his system at God's will just a few hours before he was about to go in that ill-fated plane.

I just want to add one more thing, Lalitha. Even if we were to be completely swept away by Tsunami, it's still God's love.

Thanks for coming in again and thanks for the nice words.

I love long fbs and it was certainly not boring.

love,

Dear varalotti sir,
That was an excellent piece. My loud applause and appreciations to you first and foremost of all. When I was reading I definitely thought that you are describing someone so special other than lover/ideal man/role model etc.But I was emotionally moved by your divineness in the end of the poem.

Again the above lines tempted my mind .I assumed your lines describe a friend.Because a friend is one who accepts as we are.Again goes the saying”A friend in need is a friend in deed”.
Finally I am wrong.I can definitely feel and realize god by your lines which are palpable .

Dear Bhargavi,
(Do you know that your name is associated with one of the wisest souls of Hindu Puranas? One who is born of Bhrigu is Bhargavi. Meaning that you are a descendant of that great Rishi, Bhrigu)

Thanks for the kind words Bhargavi. While I plan my bi-weekly articles and stories well in advance, poem is something that is happening. Something over which I have no control.

Since you were almost the last to respond to this thread, let me share a secret with you. Like this another poem has "happened." I want to post it on April 28th. I am sure that my wife will shout at me. ha ha ha.

Actually, Bhargavi, God is our friend and our lover. One of the greatest and most faithful lovers we can ever hope to have. We have cheated on our Beloved, God, but She/He has never cheated on us.
And it's God who has come as our parents, as our soulmates, as our friends and as our children.
When some of my friends ask about the religion I follow I tell them brutally, my religion is at least as personal as my sex life. (In fact it's more) So to discuss one's religion or one's relationship with God is quite vulgar. But I am sure an outburst like this poem can be over looked.

Thanks for coming and thanks for the kind words, Bhargavi.

regards,
