| Dear Devika, Thats kind of implicit confidence. But please don't make me a master. There are occasions when I am the master and also occasions when you hold the post. One brilliant instance of the latter is the poem you wrote recently. regards,

| Dear Vandhana, My God, me being, the PIED PIPER.... That was very sweet of you! I too remember the early days of Brindavan. I think Brindavan was introduced somewhere in the seventies. I heard an interesting story about the origin of the train. In those days Railways had a strict rule that once a Diesel Locomotive is started it should run for a prescribed minimum hours. Diesel Engine at that time was quite new. Once they decided to put a diesel locomotive to a particular train, it did not fulfill the minimum running time requirement. The time was short by 5 hours. So this train was introduced. This may be apocryphal. But sounds interesting. Quote:

| Dear Kamla, This time I am a little shy that my post appears as a leader post. I find far better posts as responses to my post. You know that an ILite sent me a bold pm saying that, 'Varalotti, you are a barking dog. You will never have the heart to bite. Even if you ask 'Will you ----- with me?' there will be nothing wrong in that. I am still wondering what good deeds I did in the past to merit such a confidence from such wonderful people like you and the other ladies here in this site. You know visiting IL is sort of therapeutic to me these days. Today I had to face a very ugly situation. I was totally off and could not do anything productive. I have a crucial writing assignment to complete by April 14th. I sat there staring at my laptop screen. Then it occurred to me why go else where when IL is there. Came here, read a few responses and now I am more than 90% all right. I was also able to resume my writing assignment. I have been writing for two hours at a stretch now. Thanks for accepting to come with me in the"rail payanam". There is no indoor monitor. There is only a small electronic screen (something you find in the Singapore MRT or the London tube) which tells you about the stations you are crossing. You have described your horrifying experiences quite graphically. So much so, that I almost suffered along with you. I can visualise what kind of problem it would be. Once we were about to travel from Pondicherry to Madurai by train. A day before news came that MGR had suddenly passed away. Trains were about to be cancelled and there was chaos everywhere. Preethi was just about 1 year old. Indhu was also frightened. We had no option than to go by an unreserved compartment. We drove down from Pondicherry to Villuppuram by taxi and took our seats in a crowded unreserved compartment. Seeing my young wife and the child people were kind enough to give sitting place to her. After an hour I got a place to sit by their side. It was night and none of us slept. The train reached Madurai by 3 AM in the morning. What a relief when we reached home by 3 30 in a taxi and hit our beds to sleep till 9 am. At the end of the day it became an adventure to be proudly repeated to one's friends and relatives. But I knew very well that we took enormous risks on that day. I too got carried away, Kamla. And being a frequent traveller in Indian trains I have an even more impressive list of horrifying experiences. We'll talk about it some time later. That was a very touching fb, Kamla. Love,

| Oh thanks, Swetha. Reading your response I am very much reminded of my daughter, Preethi. Food is one of my weaknesses and it is second only to my weakness for good filter coffee. Reciprocating the high five!... You are right, I am also allergic to the egg-stuff! Last week we had a power breakfast in our Club. There were a whole lot of items. This caterer is a specialist in Dosai. I was looking forward to eating hot masal dosas. But that idiot used the same "kallu" for regular dosai and egg dosai. I didn't even touch the dosai. Quote:
Thanks for the nice words you have about my writings. But this post is not a story but just a description of what really happened inside me and around me when I travelled from Madurai to Chennai on 24th March. You are most welcome to read all my writings here in this site. This wonderful site is my virtual home. But I know you are going to write your CA Finals (or you have become qualified now?) When you are preparing for your CA exams cut down on your other reading. When I wrote my exams way back in the 80s (CA Inter in 79 and Final in 81) I never read anything outside the syllabus. Quote:
My regards to your mom and dad,

| Writing, speaking, thinking all are basically the same processes. Do you know Vanaja, that you can't think without the medium of a language? You can't think without language. So when you are precise in your reading or writing, your thought processes will also be clear. My favourite interview technique is that I ask the candidate to talk about any topic he likes - from the IPL Cricket to her boy friend or Rajni's movie. She should talk for a minute without a break. Then I evaluate the expressions used rather than the information conveyed. I have a fairly high success rate because of this strategy. Looks like you have been writing more than talking. Once you talk more you will be comfortable with that as well. Now I am experimenting with a process which sorts of merges talking and writing. Whenever I had a plot or theme (it might be the topic for my next leader post or the plot for my next novel) I used to write it down in some paper or a computer file to be retrieved later. Now I have bought an ic recorder (capacity is 130 hours of talking time) I talk my writings and then transcribe it. I have just started doing it. Let's see how effective it is. Madam, WS does not necessarily imply a lower berth. But a lower berth implies a WS. When I have a lower berth I get a WS as well. But I have given it to my friend, which is you. OK? regards,

| Dear Aruna, First things first. Hearty congratulations for winning the Treasure Hunt Contest. Second, your new Avatar is quite impressive. The colour combination and the setting is powerful. But I am sure many ILites are going to grab that Avatar. Thanks for accepting my invitation to join me. Yes, with books, friends and good food.. what more do we want in life.... Thanks once again, Aruna. regards, Quote:
