Hi Zeenat,
You are not wrong in asking for a sub-forum to share about Islamic cultures. We are open to sharing here any cultures, especially if its relevant to the Indian community.
However, we would suggest you to open discussion threads on the Islamic culture topics you are referring to within the 'Religion & Spirituality' forum itself. Based on the responses you get for the threads you start and based on more threads getting started on Islamic cultures, we will soon open a sub-forum for the same. At that time these threads can be grouped in there.
It is not so easy to open sub-forums, maintain it from keeping away spammers, etc. Unless we see active participation from more members on a particular topic, we try not to open up a separate sub-forum.
Thanks for your understanding.

| | Re: Islam and its cultures. hi malathy, im greatfull that u replied for my request. i also understand its difficult to start a new sub forum and i wudnt have requested it if i wudve had seen any threads on the Islamic topic. actually when i clicked on the Religion & Spirituality it opened directly into sub forums and i couldnt see anywhere a link from where i could start a new thread. and all those sub-forums had specific topics so even if i had any thread started there no one wud know as the topic of the sub forum was different from mine. so its little difficult. i really dont want to give you trouble if its such a big problem then its ok. i thought thousand times b4 requesting a sub forum as i know its not easy. well im sure you can guide me in some other way ,as to from where to start a new thread.( but i dont know how many of them will know that any islamic thread has been started). im still happy that my request was atleast considered. thanking you. |

hi again malathy,
im sorry to trouble you again. well ive spoken to some ILites (muslim) and they also prefer to have a different forum abt ISLAMIC CULTURES. actually like me many of them searched the Religion and Spiritualy forum and were unsuccessful in finding how to start a thread regarding islamic cultures. also as so many of us are away from the elders and parents, that we sometimes really need help abt prayers and offering namaz during religious days and months. so by having a forum we could really help each other and especially those who are away from their homes. like for eg. one of the members phones me asked me abt a specific dua ( verse from THE HOLY QURAN) to be recited after delivery. but it happened that i just cudnt find it and i failed to help her. so i feel in situations like it cud be a great help, if we will directly ask in the forums and get replies from others. i really sorry for the inconveniece, but it would be great help if you start a forum. i hope you consider this request.
thanking you.

Hi Zeenat,
May i know what you are exactly looking for starting thread mate?
Sorry for this noob question.
If you have any questions related to Islam and its cultures, just start it in religious section.

Zeenat
I think your idea to start a new thread/subforum specifically for the discussion of issues related to Islam is a great one. There's no better way to increase the diversity and richness of participation here on IL, and be truly inclusive of all the different communities that make up Indian life and culture.
Since Induslady has already addressed this issue, and explained to you that she would consider opening a separate subforum for this AFTER you've started a discussion in a new thread in an existing forum, and based on the level of participation in that thread, here's a way forward for you.
I'm assuming from what you've written that you don't know how to start a new thread in the existing subforums. Since no one is stepping up to guide you through this process, I will try - but I must warn you, I'm not the most technically clued-up person on IL!
First, click on the Religion and Spirituality link on the list of forums. This will give you a list of subforums available. I would recommend starting your new thread to discuss Islam in the subforum Queries on Religion and Spirituality. So, click on that heading, and then click on "New Thread" in the top left corner of that page.
You will then have a blank page on which to start your new thread. Think of a suitable name for your thread - one that is clear, concise, and helps to draw people to it based on its main topic, and type that in the Title box. Once you have done that, you can write an introductory message, outlining the scope and aims of your new thread. So, let people know what it's all about, and invite people to post their queries or discussion points related to Islam.
Then, let all your friends on IL know about the thread so you can encourage participation and get them all to post. This way, you can create and maintain a base of regular contributors, and start a lively and sustainable discussion forum for all issues related to Islam.
My understanding of what Induslady has told you is that if the thread you start gets enough traffic and becomes worthy of a subforum in its own right, then she will consider opening a separate subforum that deals exclusively with matters related to Islam. This sounds like a fair proposal to me.
Let me know if there are any other queries I can help with (through PM or in this thread) and I will be happy to try. Good luck with your new thread!
