Hi friends, I have some doubts about the bhasmadharan vidhi during somvar vrata. Somvar Vrata is performed by girls for the achievement of good husbands and women for the upbringing of their husbands. I have heard that without wearing bhasma as per the vidhi, if we do any pooja, it will not be fruitful. I have also heard that bhasma should always smeared as three lines on at least 5 or 8,16,32 body parts with reciting the respective shiva mantras. But I have not ever seen the bhasmadharan vidhi for women.So, during somvar vrata should women wear bhasma as tripundra tilaka on their forehead and other body parts? If so, on how many parts (5,8,16 or 32) women should wear bhasma? Should they wear it as wet bhasma or powdered form?
Hi As stated indeed Bhasmadharn is important for any pooja. But the complete procedure should be followed by only temple priests or brahmins who diligently followed the sacred scriptures. The reason behind this is, they are taught the upnanya mantras, and they constantly purify themselves using those mantras, and it is mandatory for them to follow the bhasmadharan procedure even before they touch a shiv ling. But for other commoners, one can apply it simple on the fore head chanting 'OM NAMAH SHIV' mantra eight times, one should use the ring finger and draw each line from one tip of the elevated eyebrow till other. if you feel like applying bhasma on your body you can simply chant the shiv mantra and apply all over your body. Lord yama himself has stated that a person who has smeared the holy ash on their body is a manifestation of rudra himself, they need not fear yama or yama kinkaras and they will be personally escorted to kalisa by shiv attendants upon their death. god bless.
