    Ugadi 27 March 2009.

Wish you a happy Ugadi with love, peace, hope and joy for the year ahead.

I hope the Ugadi will bring cheer, prosperity and peace in your life. Let us pray that we gain enough strength to accept the highs and lows of life with equanimity.

Ugadi is a symbolic festival that pronounces life as neither completely sour nor completely sweet. Let this Ugadi usher in a fruitful life. GREETINGS IN ADVANCE!

    =======================

U will know better than me, still I thought, I will pass it on?

Ugadi, or Ugadhi, is the Kannada and Telugu New Year. This is a short description of how Ugadi is celebrated in Karnataka and includes the important pujas performed, neivediya prepared, food and other rituals. The main to do list include – buying new clothes, Neem flower and leaf pachadi preparation, oil bath and Ugadi Panchanga Sravana. There are slight variations in the mode of Telugu Ugadi celebration.

    Things Needed

    New Clothes for family members
Neem leaves and flowers for Pachadi
    New Year Panchanga
    Fresh fruits
    General Puja Flowers

    Ugadi Puja

The eldest female member in the house usually prepares for the Ugadi puja.

House is thoroughly cleaned. Mango leave festoons or other decorations are installed on doors and windows. Ugadi pachadi or neem flower with jaggery is prepared.

New clothes for family members are arranged before the deity or in the puja room. A small mark using a pinch of turmeric and kum kuma is made on the new clothes, mostly on those areas which is not easily visible.

Next is the oil bath. A through oil bath with sesame oil or other hair oils is a must on Ugadi. Usually children are given a good scalp oil massage by mothers.

Then family members take a bath and are given new clothes. Now the family assembles in the Puja room.

The Panchanga Puja is performed. Copies of New Panchanga are placed on a stool and is decorated with turmeric, sandalwood paste and kumkum. Some flowers, uncooked rice and turmeric are placed on the panchanga. A simple puja is performed for the deity in the Puja room. Next is the usual arati on the deity and the panchanga.

Youngsters take the blessings of elders. Next Ugadi pachadi is eaten on empty stomach.
Next read the panchanga especially the part which contains next year’s predictions.

The traditional puja ends here. There are many Hindus who perform the Navagraha puja on Ugadi day. This is done by an experienced family member or priest.

At night, it is considered highly auspicious to look at the moon. This is referred as Ugadi Chandra Darshana.

    ------------------------
Preparation of Bevu Bella and Pachadi.

Bevu Bella, or Ugadi Neem leaf Pachadi, is an indispensable offering on Ugadhi, the Kannada and Telugu New Year day. This unique Bevu or Neem leaf preparation symbolically represents the different facets of life – sweet and bitter experiences of life.

Bevu Bella is just a simple mixture of fresh neem leaves and unprocessed broken jaggery. It is usually offered as a Prasad on the morning of Ugadi in many temples in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. It is also prepared in almost all homes.

    Ingredients

    Handful of fresh neem leaves.
¼ cup or three spoon broken jaggery

    Preparation:
    Clean the neem leaves
    Grind with a little water
    Add jaggery into the mixture.
Some people to avoid the bitter taste of neem add banana, honey or grated coconut.

Bevu Bella is eaten on empty stomach on the Ugadi day.

    Dry Bevu Bella

    Ingredients

Fresh tender neem leaves Jaggery proportionate to the number of neem leaves.

    Preparation

Mix tender leaves and jaggery and serve dry. Another preparation during Ugadi is the Neem flower pachadi or Veppam poo pachadi.

keep writing, I learn lot from ur questions or sometimes from ur answers? best of luck, and thanks for ur wishes.

    BOOST YOUR SELF CONFIDENCE

Several sudden occurrences in life make a human lose his sense of balance. In such circumstances one must remain determined and unmoving like a rock like Lord Hanuman. Whatever be the circumstances, however negative be the atmosphere, one needs to remain unperturbed, and capable of taking the right decision. Such a capability can be gained through the following powerful Hanuman Sadhana.

Placing a Hanuman Mudrikaa ( a special ring) before yourself chant the following Mantra daily 21 times

Om Hum Om Hum Om Hanumate Phat.

Try this daily for 5 days and after Sadhana wear the ring in some finger. After two months leave the ring in some temple in the feet of the Lord. This Sadhana shall provide you with a shield-like confidence and determination./

I would like to share with u all.... this sloka to be recited while having bevu-bella on yugadi

    Sloka while eating BEvu bella:

    Shataayur vajra dehaaya
    sarva sampat pradaaya cha
    sarvaarishTa vinaashaaya
    nimbakanDala bhakshanam

Meaning: By receiving this sacred mixture of neem and jaggery - I pray for 100 years of strong healthy body, may good things happen and wealth of all types (health, education etc) come. Later Wish each other a happy yugadi.

This year is Virodhi naama Samvatsara right?

It's a new year all Hindus.

Most of the devotees do not know that Rayaru was born in Bhuvanagiri where there is a temple for Swamy. Nice cozy atmosphere where u can sit and meditate, very powerful place. I am going to this place from last ten years and inform all the devotees about this sacred place. If u happen to go to cuddalore/pondy, make it a point to visit this temple and take the blessings of Rayaru.

Sri Raghavendra Swamy was born in 1601 A.D. at Bhuvanagiri (Tamil Nadu).

Poojyaya Raghavendraya Sathya Dharma Ratha Yacha
    Bajatham Kalpavrukshaya Namatham Kamadenuve.

(The worship of Sri Raghavendraswamy, who is the embodiment of Sathya and Dharma (Truth and Righteousness), bestows whatever boon one aspires like Kalpavruksha, the Celestial Tree, and Kamadhenu, the Celestial Cow. Incessant chanting of this hymn is a universal remedy for all ills and problems in life, especially in this age of tension. Also, chanting of ``Om Sri Raghavendraya Namaha," helps immensely.)

It was by force of circumstances that Shankukarna, who was serving Brahma Deva, was ordained to manifest in this world, through all the four yugas, as a staunch devotee of Sriman Narayana. In Kritha Yuga, he was born as Bhakta Prahalada, in Kali Yuga, he reincarnated as Vyasaraja of Vijayanagar and thereafter, as Sri Raghavendra Swamy.

Sri Raghavendra Swamy was born in 1601 A.D. at Bhuvanagiri (Tamil Nadu), by the benign Grace of Lord Venkateswara, when all the planets were in exalted and auspicious houses, bestowing a long divine life, (700 years) full of miracles and healing powers for the welfare of humanity. He ruled the Vedic Samrajya from 1624 to 1671. Every year his Aradhana is celebrated around the end of August, when thousands of devotees throng Manthralayam in the state of Andra Pradesh and the hundreds of Brindavans in India and abroad.

A famous couplet in Kannada goes like this: Manthralayadilluruva Karedallige Baruva.

The meaning is ``Residing in Manthralaya, He will respond to your call.'' This is absolutely true. Sri Raghavendra Swamy has given darshan to many in India and abroad.
