Default Re: regarding choosing good rudraksha

Lalitha,

You cannot immediately distinguish between a fake and real without experience.

a real rudraksha is from a berry. it is a little oily, round, rough with vertical lines running around the seed...the number of lines define the facets..1 is eka mukhi . the five is common.I have seen the tree, the fruit. the rudraskh looks light brown fresh and with aging it is dark brown...
A fake one could be made from wood...to plastic also or wild berries..but you cannot copy nature to the perfect t..so the rough edges and lines and the perfect hole found in a natural one cannot be copied perfectly...hope so..

but the best test that my guru used to say is putting it in milk or water...a real one is heavy will sink and will not float... you take the help of a experienced person if you are thinking of buying one....

hope it helps...

Dear Friends,
The following was already posted by me, last year. I am reproducing it.

Rudraksha mukahms corresponding to 27 stars:

Star No; of mukhams

Ashvini 9

Bharani 6

Karthikai Eka mukham or Gowri Shankar

Rohini 2

From yet another post of mine:
It may not be always possible to buy rudrakshams with the no: of faces we want ! Genuine ekamukham is difficult to get.
I am told the best place to buy ( pricewise) is Kathmandu & there also, it is safer to go through a known person. Now in Chennai we get genuine rudraksham sale regularly, once in 3,4 months. They give guarantee as well.
I once got from Kathmandu, ekamukham & have kept it in the puja.
If available we can buy the one for our star & keep in the puja room. There are controversial opinions about ladies wearing it. I am not competent to comment on it. Men can wear it, but should remove at night & during bath, it is said.
Indonesia is full of rudraksham trees & export all over. May be, that is the best place to buy.
There is a very near imitation bead for rudraksham & so half the time what we buy in shops may not be genuine at all !

Love,
Chithra.

Default Importance of Rudraksh!

Hi all,

This is the thread I am going to start to discuss all about Rudraksh. This will clear all your doubts about Rudraksh.
First of all I know what is rudraksh?
You can say Rudraksh is divine power of Lord Shiva.
Rudraksh = “Rudra” + “Aksha”. The word “Rudra” stands for Great Lord Shiva and the word “Aksha” stands for the tears of Rudra .

But what is the purpose of Rudraksh?
What are the benefits of Rudraksh?

These are some questions basically I am seeking.Hope you will give me answers of them...
