Hi all dry fruits lovers I just got a new pack of dried figs and was wondering if dried figs could have tiny worms / wasps (which cant be seen thru naked eye)? google seems to have info on fresh figs only So, Are Dried figs safe to eat? I've eaten scores of them before and i don't know why im queasy now
Recently I read an article on figs and being a Vegetarian I don't want to eat them anymore. Sorry don't have the link.
Dear @ppoorna , Welcome to IL family. Dried Figs can be like any other dried fruit like dates etc. Seeds of figs are beautifully crunchy and small even after many months of storage. That is the reason many love figs and some feel uneasy. If it is well sealed, within expiry date, not bought in lose conditions, and is not soggy and stale I will recommend. Go ahead and don't deny yourself of a healthy natural delicacy.
Buy from a good source. I would think shops like Nilgiris or those selling ethnic groceries have good quality figs.
DRIED FIGS contain lot of IRON. Very very healthy and nutritious... just soak 2 pc daily every night and eat in morning along with almonds. and regarding worms, well u can identify them from naked eye if they are suitable for eating or not...fresh would be very appealing, rest would be little fluffy, faded, and excessive dry or wet...
Am eating from many days and my doc advised to have figs as it contains iron. but we have to buy from well branded stores
