Poha Dahi Chat An easy no cook recipe using flattened rice (avil / poha). A healthy & tasty chat recipe :- Serves : 1 Red Flattened Rice - 1/4 tea cup (red poha / red avil) Beaten curd - 3 tbsp Grated carrot - 1 tbsp Grated cucumber - 1 tbsp Finely chopped Onion - 1.5 tbsp. Finely chopped coriander leaves - 1 tbsp Finely chopped Green Chilli - 1/4 tsp Roasted cumin seed powder - 1 pinch Black salt to taste Red Chilli Powder - 1 pinch Chat masala - 1 pinch Sev - 1 tbsp (optional) wow! isn't it a colourful Procedure :- [*=left]In a sieve put the flattened rice, wash it under running water and keep it aside to drain. This is sufficient for the poha to become soft. No need to soak in water separately. By the time you chop & prepare other things, the poha will be ready. [*=left]Take a serving bowl [*=left]Spread the soaked poha first [*=left]Over it put a layer of beaten curd [*=left]Sprinkle the grated carrot, cucumber, coriander leaves, finely chopped onion, coriander leaves, green chillies [*=left]Sprinkle black salt, roasted cumin powder, chat masala powder, red chilli powder, Sev [*=left]Serve as it is. While eating, it can be mixed.
Special Fruit salad This flavourful fruit salad is also made for Ganapathy Homam but with certain fruits (Havan performed for Lord Ganesha). It goes well as an offering, dessert and a nice fruit salad. You may add the fruits of your choice with the basic apple, sweetlime, Banana, Ghee, Flattened rice, Lemon juice and few Lemon pieces. Ingredients :- Apple - 1 No. (medium size) Guava - 1 No. (Small size) Banana - 2 Nos. (small elaichi variety) Sweet Lime - 4 Pods (Mosambi) Pear - 1 No. Pomegranate- 1No. Lemon juice - 1 tbsp Ghee - 1 tbsp Jaggery (shredded) - 2 tbsp Cardamom powder - less than 1/4 tsp Coconut pieces - 1 tbsp (finely chopped) Flattened Rice (poha) - 2 tbsp Procedure :- Chop the fruits (apple, pear, banana, sweet lime) and put them in a bowl. Add the pomegranate pearls, Lemon juice, Ghee, Shredded Jaggery, Cardamom powder, Finely chopped coconut, Flattened Rice. You can add even finely chopped lemon pieces to it as they make it more interesting with their citrus flavour when chewed on. Otherwise you can even add lemon rinds along with lemon juice. Mix everything together. Let it rest for minimum 10 minutes, covered. Mix and serve. You may also serve this chilled as a dessert.
