I make oats every 4-5 th day for breakfast. I use Steel cut oats , dry roast them & then cook them .

    1 cup Steel cut oats
    3.5 cup water
1 cup low fat milk ( you can use what ever milk you use )
    1/4 tsp cinnamon
    1/4 green cardamon pwd
3 tb sp brown sugar. or more if you want sweeter.

I start with dry roasting steel cut oats in a pan. Then add water & let them cook on low heat covered. Do mix it once or twice. Once they are alomst cooked, add everything else & cook till the consistancy you want.

I make this quantity every time & I get 4-5 servings out of this.

When eating I topped them with almonds, walnuts & raisins and some more milk.

    Hi Aruvii..
This is mostly like other upmas..recipe is for 2 members..

1.1 cup of quaker oats.. roasted in medium flame for 3-5 minutes..
it shouldn't get brown.. this is is just to take out stickiness..

2.In another kadai saute mustard, hing,Urad dhall, curry leaves, 2-3 chillies slit
    Onion until golden brown

3.add chopped veggies 1/2 to 1 cup - as per your taste
    carrot, potato, green peas, cabbage..
its better to avoid mushy vegetables like tomato..

    4. you can add turmeric for color..
and some masala powders per your taste..

    5. after vegetables are almost cooked, add roasted oats..
the diff from other upmas is we need to sprinkle water repititively as needed..
    instead of adding boiling water..
cook for 4-6 min in medium flame.. oats will get cooked soon..

6.switch of stove, and add lemon juice from half lemon
    and some coriander leaves..

    This will be slightly chewy..
if you want to have as evening snacks, you can roast it few more min.. oats will breakdown as crunchy small brown particles..
Better to have with chutney or sambar, as it will be little dry..

Another recipe my mom often makes is Oats paniyaram..
    Its absolutely delicious..and soft..
its made with left over dosa batter of that week, some roasted oats, peanuts/cashews,
    onions and red chillies..

Once i tried oats kuzhiappam it had come awesome. Just soak 1cup of oats with salted curd for 15 minutes, then add the mixture with normal idly batter, add onion, crated carrot, cabbage, potato , green chillies and coriander. If needed we can add very little water.Heat the Paniyaram pan and add about 3 drops of oil in each hole. When the pan gets heated, pour the prepared batter in each hole till more than 3/4th of the hole.
Let it cook in the medium flame until it becomes golden brown at the bottom.
Turn over and cook until the other side also gets golden brown and crisp. Coconut chutney right choice sidedish.
