I believe 1 cup urad dal : 2 1/2 cups idli rawa and if even this proportion does not give you soft idlis try 1 cup urad dal : 2 cups idli rawa.

i generally prepare more batter in grinder and store it for a week or more than that.
    ratio is:

    4 cups idli rice
1 cup urad dhall (whole and not split)
Sometimes, depending on my laziness, i try to add, poha and fenugreek to rice, but do it after washing the rice, else they will get away easily when you wash the rice.

    Hi..
Idlies are made using idli ravva or idli rice.
Using ravva - it is usually 1 cup urad dal and 2 cups idli ravva.
Using idli rice - it is usually 1 cup urad dal and 4 cups idli rice.
This is the standard recipe for idli.Does this mean that 1 cup of idli rava is proportinate to 2 cups of idli rice or is 1 cup idli ravva equals to 1 cup idli rice? Please clarify.
