Chidambaram gotsu

    Many of you could not have heard about this Gotsu.......
    It goes good with Idli / Pongal / Dosa or with plain rice.

    Ingredients:
    6 small brinjals,cut into wedges, 1 cup of pearl onions, 2 tsp Chilli powde,r A pinch of turmeric, A small golf-sized ball of tamarind pulp, 3 sprigs of curry leaves, 1/2 cup Gotsu Podi, 1/4 cup Oil Salt
    Gosthu Podi :
    3 tbsp of Coriander seeds
    1 tsp of Cumin seeds
    2 tbsp of Bengal gram
    1/2 tsp of Fenugreek seeds
    A small piece of asafoetedia
    5-7 Chillies
    1 tsp oil

    Method of Preparation :- Heat oil and fry asafoetedia,fenugreek seeds, bengal gram,cumin seeds,corainder seeds and chillies and grind them together to make Gothsu Podi. 1.Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of water . Remove the skin off from the pearl onions. 2.In a kadai,heat a tsp of oil and fry the onions till transculent and set them aside. 3.In the same kadai,heat a tablespoon of oil and fry the brinjal wedges for a min. Add 1/4 cup water .Cover and cook till mushy... 4.Extract the tamarind juice.Add salt, chilli powder,turmeric powder and onion to the tamarind juice and mix them all together.Bring this mixture to boil. 5.In a cup take the gothsu podi add 1/4 cup water and dissolve them. Addthis to the brinjal and the gothsu podi mixture and stir well.The Gosthu will thicken now, Add 1/4 cup oil and the curry leaves. Cook for a min. Serve when hot

    Our family deity is Thillai Mahali amman so we often visit chidambaram...and we never miss chidambaram special podi idli in the night tiem path way shop or maami's special pongal and gotsu
