    Hi,
Can someone please tell where can I get the Rangoli powders and white powder(like back home) here in U.S . I tried the color sand from Michaels. But most of the colors are not as bright as we have in India.

    Shobi.

hi Shobi, you can try in your local Indian stores. Or you can find colored sand in any arts and crafts shop like Micheal's.

Discussion regarding Flour used in Rangoli

    Hi

Can someone tell me if maavu made out of grinding extra long grain rice good enough for yezhai kolam ? I had saved a small quantity of raw rice for rare occasions like this, but now I have run out of it and only 20 pound bags are available in the store which are too expensive and scarce!

For eating, we have completely switched to extra long grain rice, which in my opinion is closest to the taste of raw rice

Hi, do you mean maa kolam (wet kolam)? I have used regular store bought rice flour mixed with water to do maa kolam. Works fine.

Yes, that's what I mean :) I have never tried it with arisi maavu, but some how without the graininess that comes out or oora pottufying arisi and then grinding, it just doesn't feel like kola maavu :)

But I guess I will try this once.
