    Hello Ladies,
This is the first time i'm posting in this forum. I hope discussions are allowed in this forum.
In most parts its still a tradition to draw at least a small basic rangoli at the door every morning. Of course many of us don't get even that much time or don't have enough place.
When it comes to festivals especially 3-4 days of Diwali this becomes a must in front of every house. With the widespread new styles the old ones like dotted designs, flowers, water ones are rarely seen only in competitions.
Having spent most of my childhood in different rural parts of Maharashtra, i've seen one thing common.
Rangoli is also taken as a friendly competition by ladies (which brings the families in too) Preparations start days in advance buying rangoli, colors, design moulds, the drawing books come out, doorfronts cleaned and levelled.
Every day during Diwali, ladies get up earlier than others and start the rangoli carefully keeping an eye on neighbours (competitors). Biggest rangoli, new and innovative designs, the wishes like welcome, happy diwali add those special touches. Once the rangoli is done, checked, rechecked, corrected, and admired, they take a round in neighbourhood to see how others have done. Saying oh its nice but smiling inside mine is better or frowning for being one step behind is part of the game.
At the end all dissolves in those sweets and savouries shared and the beautiful neighbourhood glowing with decorations and lights all around.
Here's one of my DH's creations. Mine coming soon

rangoli drawn by me on diwali-09.jpg Wishing everyone colourful times.
