    Hello Subha...
    Welcome to indusladies:)

Maakolam is something that really needs practise...
what i can suggest you is,whenever you find time,do keep drawing the usual small rangoli/kolam designs at your pooja room..that would give you some practise
but if you really want to draw some nice designs i mean for some function thats coming up soon, you can try using the sauce dispenser technique that one of our fellow ILite had suggested...tat would be easy to draw...

i feel you can even add a thick wool to the sauce dispenser out to draw designs with ease...

you can take some simple deisgns from our IL kolam thread, there are loads of designs posted here..one for your help...

also can refer the ikolam website to get some deigns(simple/complex)

Hope my answer helps you :)

And slowly you can switch over to the traditional method of soaking a piece of cloth and drawing maakolam when you get good practice. There is definitely some benefit when you press your finger and draw kolam. It acts as accupressure. Nothing can equal our traditional methods.

    Hi SubhaKaushik,

You can remove the entrire kudumi of coconut(top part) so that after you take it out it would look like a triangular shape, more like a brush....basically you need to select a coconut like which has a thick top fiber part..hehehe
what you can do is,the you can dip the thinner side of that kudumi in the wet maavu and make design as you wish..this would be just like using the brush...usually the kavi would be applied in this way...for practise, you can use for drawing maa kolam...

@subakutty::am i right or you had some other tip?!!
